Super charming and superb deep POV of a toddler, with lots of details on what can ruin a day for a kid...cleverly conveyed in well timed and creatively rhymed lines. Fun to read aloud! Referencing go carts makes me think of kids of my parent's generation. Don;t know if kids these days still build their own, like the Little Rascals used to.

Unique imagery:

when puddles dry and hornets fly
and thistles coat the ground.

Especially enjoyed this section...all lines!:

When cakes fall flat and treats go splat
and kites are caught by trees,
when bubbles pop and stones go plop
and will not skip with ease,

when bug bites irk and monsters lurk
and peas are on the plate,

Fun! Nice smattering of alliteration on F, K-C, P, B :)

Love,
rd

thanks so much, rama devi - they still hold a soap box derby in my neck of the woods, but yes, sadly those things are less and less popular nowadays

I like this one a lot! I have always been fond of kids in general, but I have none of my own. Seeing words like this attached to photos of Sawyer having such fun, just makes my day!

It, a funny face, also quells depression if a face faces a mirror and forces a smile. The smile farces stimulation of that portion of the brain that harbors happiness. So, your poem has basis in fact. Nice thought.

Very delightful poem, Brooke. Isn't it funny that no matter how bad a day is a silly face can turn a frown upside down. Great pictures of Sawyer and Miranda. Bless you for sharing.

'A Funny Face' is an extremely well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. The simple things in life are still the best. It was a pleasure to review this talented poet's work.

A really well written poem with excellent use of rhyme rhythm and imagery. I especially liked the inner rhymes that appear throughout each stanza, that makes the task that much more difficult, but ultimately makes for a more pleasant read. Good use of alliteration.
Well done
