I love the rhyme and the jaunty humor in this. The internal rhyme is great. I like irk and lurk. So many things can go wrong in a child's world. Bug bites, monsters, kites that get caught in trees are all sad things. Good one about peas on the plate, too. Daddy getting home late is one a lot of kids can relate to. A great thought that a funny face can bring on a smile and make things seem better. judi

You're welcome. Those were delightful photos, too showing Sawyer was imitating the faces his mother made. What a great way to entertain a child. judi

Hi Brooke
Isn't it peculiar how one of your timely poems can lft my spirits? This poem fits ever so nicely with my day.
This morning we awoke to no water. I don't know if it's my pump or my pump and foot valve, but we are waterless. It might cost me $500 - $1000, or if the foot valve needs replacing, as much as $3500. I was saying to my wife this morning, "I'll never get out of debt! I'll have to work until I'm 75 years old!" (another 12 years)
So we drove in to see the baby, and you guessed it... she cheered us up. just 7 1/2 months old, cheering up her old granny and grampy. Funny faces! The whole nine yards! Your poem is perfect.
I love all the inner rhymes, and near rhymes.
For example,
"When cakes fall flat and treats go splat
and kites are caught by trees" ... love that bit about the trees eating kites, as made famous by Charlie Brown & company.
My favourite verse is the last,
"when go carts crash and dreams are dashed
and troubles just abound,
a funny face is all it takes
to turn a day around." ... you cause me to stand back and re-think my place in life, what is important, and what isn't. Losing water is just an inconvenience.
Thanks for sharing!
your ardent fan,
Kimbob

Kimbob, thank you so much for your generous six stars and for sharing that story. I sure hope the water problem has the cheapest of those possible solutions. I feel the same way about having to work forever because of my financial situation. Currently I am doing a great job of losing weight and can't even afford clothes of a smaller size. LOL Brooke

What's money, eh? My kids tell me, "You can't take it with you."
You need to get published! Your poetry would sell thousands of copies. Maybe millions! You're too good for just a Fanstory audience... not that we don't appreciate it.

Fast paced, fun and oh so true. Your words flow from start to finish and you end up with a smile. I love the pictures you chose to bring your words to life. Nice job.

Brooke laughter is medicine for the soul and a silly face is one of its pills. A wonderful poem and truly lively indeed. Always get a great smile from reading your work.

So these must be "selfies"? Who can resist Sawyer's attempt to mimic Mom? I counted fifteen specific things that could make a child pout, but my favorite one is "peas are on a plate." These funny faces turned my day around. :-)

Spitfire, thank you so much, and yes, they're selfies. I still hate peas :-) Brooke

Thanks, I needed that bit of advise. I'll go look in the mirror next time I'm or someone I love is down in the dumps. One of my favorite lines...the peas on a plate...I like them right off the vine myself. Loren

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this to you before, I believe "children become their parents". Many people grow up with very similar philosophies and attitudes to those of the people who have raised them. This poem definitely illustrates this positive feeling a child can take from a good role model. Best wishes.

You are most welcome. I find your poetry important because I think it helps to keep me grounded. My two sons, my daughter-in-law, and my five grandchildren mean the world to me. And, there is the view you present of children just having a good life. In the vast realm of all that is, I can't think of anything more important. Best wishes.
