Hi Debi,
Wow! What a way to lose a child. It's funny how many of our childhood stories had such a dark subject matter. As a child I thought those fairy's were so clever, but as a parent, the thought of losing a child now, has new meaning.
You did a wonderful job putting this story to rhyme, and I appreciated the solid meter used to enhance the feel of the poem, well done.
Best wishes, Bill

Thank you so much for the encouraging words about the writing, Bill. I appreciate it.

Yes, we have an older book of fairy tales which is much scarier that the modern versions. Both grandma and Red Riding Hood get eaten by the wolf and the woodcutter has to cut him open to get them out. Two of the three pigs get eaten by the wolf and the third pig eats the wolf. Oh, my what a scary world. Amazing that kids like the darker stuff. It's the adults who think its cruel.

    Watch out for fairies. Debi

There is something so appealing about the pantoum. You've placed a greater challenge on yourself by using it a sonnet for.

A delightful little bit of faerie fancy, debi. Your lines scanned perfectly for rhyme and metre.

Love the phrase 'frantic glee' - it says so much!

Until next time,

Sonali

Wonderful poem. Children are such wonderful gifts, and they should be cherished. I like the description that you use. Great picture as well.

A very pleasant enlightenment of being
a new parent and all the excitement that
goes with it. The Pantoum is far too
complicated for my level, but how I enjoyed
the read. Eric

Hello there~!
i was just thinking about the first pantoum sonnet of the fairies, when this popped up! I love it!
So the fairies succeeded. Evil little things!
BTW, I didn't know about the 'fetch'. THanks for the info!
Great Job!

JazakAllah Khair~!
(God Bless~!)

What a great compliment--that you were thinking about the other poem. I am honored.

Yes, those evil fairies succeed and are absolutely thrilled about it.
Just a little more about the fetch-- it was a way for people in medieval Europe and Scandinavia to explain how a healthy child suddenly grew sick and died. They didn't know about germs so I guess they had to blame something. I wonder if it gave them some hope that their child was alive somewhere else?

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. I appreciate it. Debi

Very well written Sonnet Pantoum Debi. Fairies celebrating because they have taken a human child. Tragic for parents of the child. I had never heard this fable before. I thought a changeling was an abandoned child in the wilderness. LOL It seems we are never too old to learn. Nancy

Thank you for the kind comments, Nancy. I took this from medieval legends about fairies and their fascination with human children. So much more mischievous than the fairies we think of nowadays. I appreciate you stopping by. Debi

A lovely pantoum sonnet celebrating the stealing of a human child by fairies from the fairies' point of view. And yet the fairies would view it as a trade, since they've left a fetch in it's place. A fine presentation of a piece of magical lore. :) nancy
