Very touching, well written, and thoughtful. I loved the part of the games we played to try to get the other to love us as much as we trusted them. Great writing with super imagery. Love the picture.

As we reflect on the years, now gone by ... hindsight is twenty/ twenty, isn't it?

Distrust and heartache, are things we live through, ... we all do, don't we?

Good rhyme and proximate rhyme. The introspective mood of this poem is most thought provoking.

Very well done, dw.

Have great week.

we can't fix anything unless we understand what is broken what went wrong. so asking the questions and attempting an answer is the path to evolution from pain and towards happiness, what do you surmise? thank you for writing

Excellent Poem! The poem flows and connects well. The
author's words are clear, creative and thought provoking.
The reader pondered on this poem. The artwork is perfect and reflects well the theme of this poem.

This was appropriately melancholy and full of memory lane style ennui. There's not much context; suffice to say a spanner was tossed into the works, resulting in a mangle of regrets and recriminations vis-a vis the party of the second part at the hands of the adored object. Some consider that the good part of love; the operatic break-up, so as to have an excuse to wallow in weapons grade misery (Values of honor, scarred deep on my heart"). This skillfully articulated these deck heaving emotions, but also lets in a tiny ray of sunlight to intrude on the otherwise gray proceedings (Now I contemplate on life's new surprise), with a look to the future with guarded optimism and a battered but wiser heart. The romance may not have worked out, but the memories remain and that, my friend, is poetry.

A poignant reflection on life. Yes, many live in a land of broken dreams and broken promises, the premises of their own making.

Well said:

Discarded vows, for greener promised lands,
Distrust and heartache, are things we live through,
What of the mind games, the trials, the truths?

I think, we have a deeper look inside ourselves and try to fix our own lives before we judge others. Honor, committment, loyalty - these are values hardly to be discarded.
