This perfectly rhymed poem is really funny as it nails us (mothers) trying to get nutritious food into our kids. It reminded my of my daughter's effort to get a veggie into little Branson. She finely grated carrots and cooked them into mac n cheese. Busted with the first bite.

seaglass, thank you so much :-) Yeah, smart kids are not fooled. Miranda can smother something he doesn't like in chocolate and he will lick off all the chocolate and then spit out the offending food. And if you go to child rearing websites or visit a professional nutritionist, as Miranda did through her health plan, all their ideas amount to stuff like smothering and wrapping around and chopping up to mask the disliked foods, and those things do not work with smart kids. This is a cute poem and of course Sawyer is adorable. I could never get my kids to eat liverwurst or tuna until they were adults and now, ironically my stomach doesn't like either one. :)

Miranda knows how to win her little fella back over with a gooey dessert! I enjoyed your fun in these rhymed quatrains. Wishing the "tuna...would jump back in the ocean" is choice! Smiles- Joan

Now this is a kid after my own heart and surely the heart of my children. This yet another take on this exploits of this marvelous youngster. I'm hoping that when he comes of age and looks back on these wondrous inspirational expressions that they provide for him a wonderful sense of joy and inspiration. Well done.

Till the last amen

Delightful rhyming couplets and I think every youngster would agree each line. I know many adults who would also agree.
Wonderful alliteration in this charming, fun to read poem.

Blessings

thank you so much, Janet - somewhere in the world there must be a kid who likes liverwurst, but he's not a member of our family LOL

Hi Brooke
Love this one! I wrote a poem a long time ago about a poor little boy who complained about his meals, called "But I Don't Like Peas"...here it is, just for you:

I'm sitting down to supper.
I wonder what we'll have?
My mother is a wonderful cook.
That makes me giggly glad!
She cooks a roasted chicken.
It's juicy and it's sweet.
(At least, that's what my daddy says),
BUT I DON'T LIKE MEAT !

I hear the kettle boiling.
My sister makes some tea.
Of course, that's what the big ones drink.
I know it's not for me.
If I drink this other stuff,
Strong bones in me are built.
It soothes my uncle's ulcer well,
BUT I DON'T LIKE MILK !

There's always mashed potatoes,
Or fried, or baked, or creamed.
You know, I thought I ate one once,
But it was just a dream!
My Grammy says green vegetables
Are extra good for me.
My brother eats them from the pod,
BUT I DON'T LIKE PEAS !

Now, every kid likes chocolate,
Thick, and sweet, and brown.
Every time my finger dips,
They say to put it down!
My aunt gives me an apple,
And tells me that I'm cute.
I guess I am good-looking,
BUT I DON'T LIKE FRUIT !

My family will not listen.
There's something on the shelf.
You spread it on some buttered bread.
Make it easy on yourself!
I cannot get my point across.
I'm in a fix. I am!
They say: "Please eat your supper, Bill.
You can't have bread and jam!"
***
I see little Sawyer is eating a nice-looking ice cream sandwich...Mmmmmm! It's so funny, but our Alyssa hates carrots, but she loves peas and also squash.
I especially like this verse,
"She thinks a glob of mayonnaise
and mustard's all it takes
to mask the most unfortunate
of suppertime mistakes." ... I love mayo, but hate mustard. My wife likes mustard, but wouldn't eat mayonnaise if she was starving and it was on the bread.
"I normally don't mind some cheese --
I wouldn't even cower,
but she insists on pouring it
all over cauliflower." ... I think cheese is terrific with cauliflower...also pretty good coating for broccoli or Brussels sprouts.
"She tries to dress her tuna up
in motherly devotion,
though I just wish her tuna fish
would jump back in the ocean." ...I like the inner rhyme here of "wish/fish", and a great bit of imagery!
Nicely penned!
your fan,
Kimbob

Kimbob, thank you for your wonderful poem and for your generous review :-) Sawyer never met a meat he likes. Thank goodness he loves milk and cheese. He hates all veggies but loves his fruit. Let's just say we're waiting for him to expand his eating horizons LOL :-) Brooke

Absolutely adorable poem and photo. Crisp tone in a child-like fashion. Good examples of food children probably hate, ick:). Well thought supporting alliterations...mayonnaise, mustard to jazz up that liverwurst. good work, Brooke:)

Brooke: a lively gallop through a two year olds mind about the food his mother feeds him. But, all is forgiven when she gives him an ice cream sandwich. Fun to read and perfect rhyme and rhythm to moved it along. Linda

I am sure that plenty of children think this way. There are plenty if foods that are served up and expected to be eaten. It is strange that we force feed children, but adults have the pick of what they eat. It always perplexed me why my parents gave me food I didn't like when there were plenty of healthy options that I did actually like. I suppose we had a big family and this was the main reason why she couldn't cater for every taste. I will have just one or two and I will try to be more considerate. Like this poem, I loved my parents and I know I was loved in return and that is all that matters. Well done again.

Tomes, my grandson is very picky. The nutritionist, the doctor and all the childcare websites all agree that one should never force feed a kid unless he's refusing to eat completely and is wasting away. I agree :-) Thanks so much for your thoughtful response to this poem :-) Brooke

Get this to the food network or The Chew because they would eat this up and love it.
Incredibly sweet and precious.
Very touching and endearing.
