Tough job being a scarecrow
Standing in the sun all day
Keeping the birds at bay
No time for playing in the hay
Just work, work and work
keeping the birds at bay

Well done with your entry, Buck

Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

This is a very nice poem and an excellent entrant for this contest. Your verse flows so smoothly such is the quality of your rhyme and rhythm. The story of the scarecrow and its down fall (and inevitable resurrection) is rendered via the voice of the worker (hence the competition prompt is fulfilled). It has a lovely story to tell and does so with charm and humour. Love:
All that season I stood proudly and I kept the birds at bay,
With my scarecrow arms outstretching and my tufty hair of hay.
I kept safe the rustling sweet-corn and the snowy cauliflower,
All the lettuce and the peas and beans - it was my finest hour.

I'm suspecting I know who you are as there are only a handful of Australians (hint:bonza little sheila) who write rhyme as well as this with such good humour and strong meter. You're probaly from England or somewhere, but I like to guess.

Hmmmm.. Some people are able to spot my style a mile away, but I might have misled you slightly with the 'bonzer Sheila.!

Thanks for the excellent review and the six stars - much appreciated.

Your granddaughter is a cutie :-)
solid rhyming couplets
good alliteration in phrases like stalky straw and in started stirring, signs of spring
excellent descriptive detail with good appeal to senses beyond the visual
wonderful personification of the scarecrow
a fun poem :-) Brooke
