This is very nicely rhymed with a playful rhythm. it reminded me of my childhood and a typical day for me at around aged 4. I didn't chase pirates but I gave fairies and elves a run for their money. I'm sure all readers will relate to Molly

What a lovely innovate take on a job, Steve. It's easy to see why this one was a winner. Glad I took some time to back in your portfolio to have a look. I'll try to get to a couple more in the next while.

Just one suggestion:

Once I stood tall and splendid (consider changing to:)
I Once stood tall and splendid (for better iambic flow)

    Thanks, Rose.

Hacked out in a hurry to make the contest deadline! Good spot for that line - I will make the change.

Nearly all of my children's pieces are now in the FS book 'Steve's Poems for Kids'. I surprised myself to find how many there were and reminded myself of some stuff I had written!

Very deserving of the All Time Best
accolade kiwi' a great way to introduce
any child to the art of poetry. Fun
and funny yet readable too. The picture
sets the mood easily enough. The life of a teddy bear'. Eric

Great poem, Steve. I feel like I've been very busy. Those imaginative verses full of teddy bear and girl activity really roll along with great rhythm and detailed movements. The form, rhyme and meter are terrific and aid the sense of purpose. The poem is alive within the imagination of the bear and feels so realistic with all of the dialogue and great descriptions. I liked this part best:
The morning flies past in the blink of an eye;
What adventures we shared in, my Molly and I.
What booty we plundered, what galleons we sank!
Though my fur's a bit wet - that's from walking the plank.
But the brigands were beaten - piratical bunch-
And we scuppered the lot just in time for our lunch!

    Thanks!

Yes a kid's (and a bear's) life is always busy. I have a bit of a soft spot for this poem....

Cute is an understatement! Kids would love it and adults too, I think. What fun to have Teddy tell the story from his Point of view. Sounds like a great book! :)

    Thanks, Phyllis.

I may have confused people - the book is just a random bunch of my children's poems - not a coherent story - although, now that you mention it!

Well, this is an interesting post about Molly and Teddy. I like the run which contains kiddies' real minds and activities. Digging deep into the minds of the kids to come out with this formula.

I loved this. I must look into the rest of the story. And I don't think I ever had a teddy. Boo hoo. Maybe I had a bankie. My granddaughter had a teddy. She dragged it around, called it a softy. She is 20 now, leaving home. Oh well...good job.

Now, now, don't be having a severe case of teddy envy!

Thanks for reviewing - the book is not one coherent story, just a collection of most of my children's poems.

Many kudos on your well-deserved win. I enjoyed your rhymed couplets in these humorous, rhythmic quatrains plus your descriptive storytelling and use of alliteration. Thank you for sharing your cute granddaughter and her pal too. Here's to scarecrows! Cheers- Joan
