Very clever, Debra! My kids' grandmother suffers from the same problem! It's sweet, but not necessary, they love her when she hikes with them, reads to them, bakes for them ... not that they would ever refuse her store-bought gifts, mind you!

Lol Patti :) my kids are more than happy to be spoiled too, though they much prefer time and attention... Thanks for your great feedback, love Debra x

Aw, I'm a grandmother, and it is lovely to buy little treats. I get beautiful pictures drawn for me as a thank you, with huge Xs for kisses. No, we don't buy their love, it was already there in the beginning. Saying that, the little devils do have a look in my shopping bag whenever I see them!! Perhaps I'll surprise them one day! :) Good luck in the contest, Debra, it's a great senryu:) xsx sandra

Cheers Sandra :) I'm mortified when the kids rifle through their nan's bag looking for treats, even though I know it's because they've come to expect a present every time she calls, it's still embarrassing - they weren't brought up that way! Thanks for the great feedback, I bet your fridge is covered in drawings from the grand kids, I can't see my kitchen walks for their artwork! Much love, Debra xx

Debra;
I'm sorry very much dear but I don't get it! I tried very hard by using your cleverness and your readiness and even your imagination which I thought would be very inventive and creative I still cannot figure out why this was either sarcastic or funny.
All I can say is good luck in the contest and maybe in your reply you can give a hint what this was about.

    Hi Alex :)
Sorry you didn't get my Senryu !
Saying that 'grandmother' is hard of hearing, means that she doesn't hear what 'they day' about not being able to buy love. She continues to try to buy the kids' love...
    I appreciated the stars nonetheless!
Kindest regards as always, Debra :)

HAHA Debbie :D

Yeh and I bet you don't want your kids eating too many sweets.

This is one of those rare short poems that actually says something.

Fantastic six. (The original four and two more to sweeten your tooth :)

I love the poem. I am one of those guilty grandmothers. I like to buy my grandchildren things. I don't think I am trying to buy their love. I could not afford to buy my own children many extras. This generation of children have more exciting toys too. I am finally enjoying buying extras for children. Great work.

Ha-ha, probably a good thing for the children that she is. They get a lot more candy, goodies and gifts that way, LOL!

Nicely done, Debra. Good luck in the contest...

Debra, Great senryu! As a grandma, it made me laugh. Hey, I don't buy love, maybe just a little extra insurance on it now and then. :) Excellent entry in the contest!

very good, cleverly written is so few words, but it's spot on for the senryu. Never looked at it that way through those relationships but yes I see it now.

good luck in contest
good humor

Hi Debra! What a treat to see a prompt that defines senryu correctly - a rare treat on FanStory. You followed the guidelines well and included some great satire and irony, the essential ingredient for senryu. Love the play on words with "hard of hearing." We grandmothers do like to spoil our grandchildren. Good luck in the contest, Sue

Hi Shelley :) thank you for your great feedback and for sponsoring this fun prompt. Thanks also for the good luck wishes.... I just awoke to find out that the committee disqualified me though :( this is because my Senryu has 17 syllables not 'less than 17' as it specifies in the rules. Ah well, that'll teach me to triple check the rules in future!
Kindest regards as always, Debra :)
