This is a great haiku, and I congratulate you on this! My neighbor has some lined up behind his garage where I can look out my window are see them. The are very large and beautiful, and is seems as if they perk up on a sunny day. They do droop more after dusk, and the birds know where to go now for food, lol. I really enjoyed this very much. . .Sharon

Thank you so much, Sharon, for your great review and comments for my haiku. Sunflowers are so amazing. As a young flower, it follows the sun from sunrise to sunset, and then rest during the night. The center disc is first filled with thousands of tiny florets. And these are what changes to seeds later in the season. The bird's beaks can dig for seeds, or they wait for the seeds to drop to the ground. Such an amazing creation! Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts.

This is really nice haiku. You capture the image of the seed laden sunflower (a favourite of mine) very crisply in the opening two lines. The satori of 'hungry birds' complements the opening very effectively, yet moves the central idea away from sunflower to that which will next connect with the flower. Congratulations on what appears to be a much deserved winner. (did not read the entries)

This little poem certainly draws a very vivid mental picture for the reader. That word "droops" really captures the look of a mature sunflower heavy with seeds. It's pretty obvious, too, what those birds are up to! Well done.

All in one breath, and paints a lovely picture. Hungry birds will be satisfied and fill their tummies with delicious sunflower seeds. They will tweet with happiness.

Great job, HungryIndyBird - CONGRATULATIONS!!

Wonderful haiku with connected imagery (would make a colorful oil painting) Some of those seeds will go to make more sunflowers. Ah... so many happy birds, especially Cardinals.

Loved your haiku ... ;o) TweetyKat

Hello TweetyKat! Thanks for taking the time to look over my haiku and share your always appreciated comments. I love how cool sunflowers are. I like watching them follow the sun from sunrise to sunset, to see how the thousands of florets change into the seeds, and watch the birds devour the seeds. Thank you for your congratulations!

Hi Indy,

Great poem for Nature, and easy to see why you won. Congrats!

Used to have sunflowers all along one side of the barn when we lived in Ohio. It was really cool.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'.... Jax

Thanks for your kind comments, Jax, and I appreciate your taking the time to write your kind review. Sunflowers are such a cool flower. I love the way they tract the sun, and how all those florets in the disc turn into the seeds. Thanks for your congratulations.

Provision for the feathered kingdom. Here's hoping they will use wisdom and leave a few seeds to provide for the next season. Best to you with the entry.

Hi anon - You have produced a haiku in 12 syllables. Your first two lines are very good, interconnecting as required - I am not sure about 'hungry birds' with so many seeds available I would have thought they would be very satisfied, but your line is perfectly satisfactory and I wish you luck in the Contest. Regards Dorothy

Thank you for reading my haiku, Dorothy, and for sharing your comments. You'd think those birds would be full with so many seeds to eat from one sunflower, but they sit there under the flower waiting for them to fall. It's fun to watch. Thanks!
