Boy, Samuel sounds like one tough dude. Excellent rhythm that you can literally stomp your feet too. Though whimsical, the beat adds to his legendary swagger.

I thoroughly admire the way you take "ordinary" moments from Sawyer's days and spin delightful (and deceptively complex) rhymes about them. I know he will treasure all of them when he gets a little older. I thought this was perfect, as usual, and that it's a shame children everywhere aren't able to have it read to them, to be thrilled by the idea of a platypus and discovering a dinosaur, and to be entranced by the rollicking rhyme. I think that's the real appeal of Dr. Seuss; the words are just so much fun to read and say. Again, I would encourage you to consider publishing these (maybe starting as an e-book?) I know parents of toddlers would love them.

Samuel James Nehemiah Hill sounds like an exceptional man indeed. Either that or somebody is an exceptional story teller. This is an interesting poem and I know plenty of men who have stories like these to tell. I try to keep my stories to a minimum because nobody would believe the tales I have to tell. I put them in writing instead. Sometimes I embellish a little too.

Thanks so much, Tomes - writing gives us such a great chance to embellish, doesn't it? :-) Brooke

Yes indeed.

I don't know Brooke. He looks absolutely terrified to me! LOL
That Samuel sounds like quite a fellow but I don't think we should let our sweet Sawyer run around with such a dangerous person.. LOL Very cute poem. Nancy

Nancy, thanks so much :-) His mommy snapped the picture just as he was calling her name, momma. She got the photo on the second syllable, creating the terrified look effect :-) Brooke

No one, and I do mean No One has the arsenal of names that you do, Brooke.
As for Samuel James Nehemiah Hill, well, I heard his mother was looking for him over at Jurassic Park. Seems him sneaking out of the house and going on all of these adventures has caused her a great deal of worry, and I fear she might have gotten herself in a bit of a pickle.
I sure hope he can get there in time...
Nice work as usual, Brooke. Very well rhymed and entertaining.

You capture the wonderful magic that swirls in a child's mind where miracles do not cease but continue endlesly through the adventures of Samuel James Nehemiah Hill. Well done, Brooke.

Say what you want and claim what you will,
nobody ropes like Samuel Hill.
I started laughing there, and didn't stop smiling. This is beyond adorable. Like a miniature Paul Bunyan, Sam will be a legend that children everywhere will love.
I especially like the similar last lines that holds it together so well. Just wonderful in every way. Brooke, you have the rarest talent. I've never in my long life read kids' poetry that is SO imaginative and ... hate to say it, but PERFECT.

Thank you so very much, Phyllis. I talked to Sawyer on the phone an hour ago, so I can't honestly say your review is the best part of my day, but it's the second best for sure :-) Brooke

All I ask is an autographed copy of each of your books. I'll pay for them, of course. Just want them signed by the someday-famous author. :)

Quite an adventurer, that Samuel James Nehemiah Hill! So very well done, again, Brooke! My questions is: do you dream these poems in the night and then wake up and write? :)
Great rhyming and alliteration. The flow is wonderful, and I love the picture of Sawyer -- that ham!
Thanks for sharing with all of us. Alana

Thank you, Alana. Funny you should ask. I woke up at 2:30 and there was his name. I had to get out of bed to write it down and then wrote the first two stanzas before returning to sleep. LOL His mother is great at capturing a photo at just the right time - he was calling out to her, "Momma!" and she caught the picture on the second syllable. LOL :-) Brooke

You are welcome, Brooke!

Oh Dawn, I read the first four lines and immediately thought of: John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt - am not sure if you remember, but my grandparents used to sing that to me and my sister.
A wonderful, whimsical tome that I must believe kids (and some of us adults) will love. The photo of Sawyer is very cute and works oh so well with the dinosaur. Another lovely tome. Jean

Jean, thanks so much. I learned that song in grade school and love it :-) Brooke

It was sooooo much fun - and my apologies for the Dawn reference - am old, my gray cells slip and beep on the wrong wire all too often. Apologoes.
-
I call people the wrong name often, so I don't even mention it if someone gets my name wrong :-)
-
But...I feel so badly - I think it's because of the different "handles" we all use on FS. Anyway, we go forward against all odds.... Jean

This was such fun to read. I enjoyed Samuel James Nehemiah Hill' fantastic adventures and just love the expression on his face in the photo. This is a delightful poem and I do hope you still plan to publish a book of children's poems....I am holding my breath.
