This ballad has that Paul Bunyan aspect and feels good to read in its rhyming quatrains. The rhyming becomes invisible, as does the nine syllable setup due to the reader being absorbed by the cool story. Happy days.

Samuel James Nehemiah Hill - it's amazing to find a name that makes a whole line of poetry and flow so smoothly off the tongue. He's quite the adventurer and purveyor of tall stories. Roped a platypus bill, indeed. Hasn't been done Down Under since my pappy kissed a kangaroo in mid-flight long before selfies were invented for yarn spinners to give evidence of their claims. The whole poem flows with greatrhythm and each claim of grandiose deeds brings a smile to the lips. Excellent, inventive writing from your volume of charming ditties.

Hi Brooke
Seems your imagination is endless. What a delightful poem which I would have loved to read to my sons when they were small. Lovely colourful image of Sawyer - oooh that dinosaur looks scary.
"Samuel James Nehemiah Hill" - what an amazing name, such balance and rhythm and rolls of the tongue. Quite an explorer - from platypus and grizzly bears to mountain peaks. You have presented the perfect treat, I love a children's poem that can be enjoyed equally as much by adults. Now I'm off on a daydream adventure ... I couldn't express it as well as you though. :)
Lovely to be back reading some delightful poetry and prose. Thank you for your well wishes and welcome back. Great work as usual. What treasures that little boy has in a mother, grandma, and I'm sure dad. Huge hugs -Lovixoxoxo
Just found out I had no 6 ... sorry. xoxo

This is a fun poem :) It's cute, light reading that just puts a smile on your face. I like your choice of rhyming words, too - they are not boring overused words. Great job!

Hi Brooke, this is a great little legend in rhyme--the stuff of myths. Love the rolling rhythm in this write and you definitely have a flare for epic names. You also managed to pull off monorhyme in each stanza and have it still sound natural. Adorable write.

Gail, thanks so much :-) I rarely use mono-rhyme, so I'm glad you think that. Brooke

Reviewer Form:
Poem type: Children poetry
Does this poem flow: This legend in rhyme flows like honey
Do the lines seem forced: not at all
Did the structure make sense: It tells a good legend on Samuel James Nehemiah Hill
Did it draw on my emotions: It was a roaring adventure
Did it present strong images: The images presented both in word and artwork are terrific
Suggestions for improvement: none
Would I recommend this to someone else: I certainly would recommend this poem. It is well written, engages the reader, tells a legend in a fully rhymed cadence.

Hi Brooke,
a truly wonderful construction with flawless flow... our little mate looks like he's in his element... or is he telling everybody to run))))))).
I do love these adventurous tales and the names that accompany them... this one was a little ripper... enjoyed your talent.
With our thoughts we create,
a world of wonder,
James xx

James, thanks so much. His mother snapped the picture right when he yelled the second syllable of her name, which is Momma. LOL That produces the open-mouthed effect :-) Brooke

Another delightful romp .
Your sense of whimsy and delight never fails to cheer me.
Wish we had a " Muse of the Year" award. Sawyer would win hands down.
