At twenty-one, it hits the proverbial overdrive. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read.

Very true message in this poem of very few words. Yes we can't wait to be another year older until we make twenty one, then they all come to fast.

Absolutely I agree with you. I think I broke my timepiece trying to wind it backwards! LOL. This is a very effective short piece. I liked it and I think you did well, Giddy

Very nice writing and this is so true! I love the photo included as well. Time goes by so fast unless waiting and watching the hands spin. Perhaps there should be a clock on everything we see. Maybe our lives would slow down. Lol! Great writing and best wishes!

Seems like I was twenty-one was yesterday. Love the last line. It's so original. My twenties seemed still slow enough compared to now. Where has the time gone? Great! Les

Insightful, totally truthful little snippet! You packed a lot of sage observation in just a few words. I particularly like the reference to "proverbail bat"! Caroline

LOL Indeed it does. Just WHY is that, I wonder? When we're young we want to grow up quick, once we clock up some years we want to turn the clock back.
Nice parallel with the winged critters, but they sleep during the day don't they?
Ahhhhh, that gives new meaning to time standing still...the bats are asleep! LMAO
Well done.
Cheers P

Tempus fugit? I didn't realise 'fugit' meant flying bat.
Is this an Americanism? If so could you explain it for me please? It might help me work out an obscure line in another poem.

The old saying is; "Like a bat out of Hell," meaning very fast, wildly fast! lol. Thank you, Erik. :)MW

ROFL!!! And isn't that the truth??? Why should we even have clocks anymore after that age? I just had my birthday, and didn't even want to count it, lol. I will always be 39 and will forever stick to that! Too good, and that one melting clock reminds me of Dali. I loved this. . .Sharon

Oh hell yeah!! It seems like I turned twenty-one yesterday. Oh wait, I did! Just kidding. I turned twenty-one, thirty-eight years ago. More then 1 1/2 times 21... Sheesh, long long ago.
Nicely done. You bummed me out... Kidding. John
