I love this one. It might be a trifle out of reach for your Grandson, but it sunk home here. Short, but stocky, excellent bones--built close to the ground for power. Kenny

Kenny, many of the poems I write are not intended to be children's poems even if illustrated by my grandchild. I would not expect a two year old to read/understand this poem :-) Thanks for your review :-) Brooke

In reading your author notes, the line:
"He then told her, "You're so cute"--that is so cute, as well as heartwarming! The words from young children--they really move us;
A well-penned poem--colors always reflect our emotions, nature has a way of making one happy or bringing about sadness.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderful moment between mother and child.

Hi, Brooke.

Maybe for better grammar (tee-hee) - 'love's the rising sun'

'Solitude' is my middle name, and I don't usually have a problem with it, but I also miss hugs and love at times, as I think we all need them to fulfil and make us feel better.

Very sweet poem in perfect rhyme and meter.

Cheers, ray

At least this site provides us with contact of a sort, Brooke, but it's so easy to sit here clicking away and neglect REAL life outside.

Oh well, things could always be worse. :-)

I am sure that was all it took for you to be inspired! Kids are so spontaneous and off the cuff, quite adorable picture. Lovely words and rhymes with a sincere message for all, if you show love to others there is no need for loneliness. Enjoyable as always. Faye

This is another one of those 'life wisdom gems' set to verse that you put out now and then. I love the simplicity of the ideas, yet the complexity of meaning is superb. I really loved the second verse where you build the that rain/light contrast to highlight the value of love and how it expands. The verse is on teh money as per usual. No complaints; just applause.

Hi Brooke, what a touching story, about Sawyer and his Mum, a lovable kid no doubt.
I enjoyed your poem about the difference of being alone, and also being with loved ones.

Well written
Mary

Solitude is a good thing when you want and need it but a terrible thing when it's forced on you. This lovely poem compares the difference between love and solitude.

"Solitude is what remains, when love is left behind.' reminded me of many who's loved-ones have all passed leaving them in permanent solitude.

seaglass, thanks so much :-) As one who lives alone far from my children, I have more than enough solitude to the point I'm sick of it :-) Brooke

Ah Brooke - Your author notes are so sweet - almost outshine your poem. But not quite. A real original idea - Solitude was made for one' - obvious but not something you think of. Three good stanzas in perfect abcb rhyme - I particularly like the first two lines of your final stanza. A good read. Kind regards Dorothy x

Yes, certainly enough to make any Grandma a bit damp in the lachrymal department!

Your poem is a little emotional as well with its stark contrast between love and solitude. Mind you, solitude gets a bad rap - there are many times when it is most enjoyable.

Very clever manipulations of the structures in each stanza to maintain that balance. English teacher says that's chiasmus in stanza 1 and 2 and a more straight-forward parallel in stanza 3...

Steve, has anyone ever told you you're sexy when you wear your English teacher hat? ;-) Thanks so much, my friend. Solitude is overrated from the POV of a grandma who lives alone. :-) Brooke

Great story even after the great poetry. As always, I am happy to read your entries, this time more so because of the behind the scenes information :)
