Your poems are so beautiful, make me feel as if I am right there looking at that house. Great rhyming and it flows smoothly from start to finish. Thank you for reviving this.

This is such a beautiful poem of yearning and sense of deep loss. I wonder if the image at the end is really his beloved at the gate or only a memory? I loved your use of internal rhymes, personification of the house and plants, and the alliteration such as in "Some sagging splintered shutters show a state of disrepair". Well crafted poem!

This is lovely. The meter and rhyme are perfect. I felt I was standing in front of this old mansion myself. Your details gave me a vivid view of it.

This is a wonderful poem to reflect on the thoughts of a returning soldier, and the happy ending is just was special in a poem as in a long story. I loved all the imagery.

I'm glad I was able to catch this poem this time around. It's a beautifully written poem of love lost because of the Civil War. The form you used gave this poem a special air that worked wonderfully.

I love your combination of meter. It gives and old time feel to the story, transporting us back in time to the end of the war and the soldier returning to see the ruin of what once was and hopes that will not be. Excellent turn at the end. Maybe it is isn't all lost and life holds what is important.

I love old homes also. There are many of those old mansions in my area, and some are in great disrepair. What a wonderfully written poem. I wish I had a six for you. Best of luck with your writing!

Have a great day, and God bless.

That was a lovely poem of yesteryear. The lives of the rich who once lived there until war came between them and their loved ones. I enjoyed your poem, my friend, the Heptameter and Pentameter worked so well with the theme. Well done, my dear friend. Love and hugs, Sandra xx

A poem which benefits from variation in meter. It has the feel of the Old South and the changes the war brought. Yet love remains constant. It stands as a requiem for a culture and way of life.
