Another fun poem from Brooke! The imagery you've created is fabulous. I found myself thinking of a hippo sitting across from me in a restaurant booth and chuckling at the image.

I particularly liked the third stanza:

Would spas that give massages
and facials made of mud
provide them pools of mire
where they could laze and thud

I love the word, 'thud.' By the way, nice use of alliteration. Thanks for another fun, fun poem. Alana

for I, for one, like hippos,
and I would love to be
the one to share my table
at any eatery.

Just wonderful - lighthearted and fun -
what a mind, Brooke.

Once again, you have managed to write such a fun children's poem. The hippo is such a wonderful subject to write about because it does look so harmless, and almost comical. The lilting flow and happy rhyme make this for a terrific poem.

Thank you...the story reminded me of my daughter's favorite Christmas song - an old song sung by a child who only wanted a hippo for Christmas. Take care....Stephanie

As you so often do, your brought a smile my way. No deep interpretation needed here, just read through with a grin. Of course, with a name of Hogg, I'm related to hippos. Always warm regards, Bill

Brooke, I'm reading this, enjoying the story it tells and questions. Then I'm reminded of a Christmas song, sung by a youngster about wanting a hippopotamus for Christmas. I just can't remember the name.
I guess this huge creature of the mud has a following.
Nicely done... John

Hi Brooke, what a lovely little poem about humankind living in harmony with nature--or at least that's how I interpreted the intent of this write. I liked the stanza about hippos being in upscale spas the best--and the masseuses telling the hippos their mud is too good for them. LOL. The lines flowed beautifully, except for one that I felt was a little bit wordy with the repetition of "for":

for I, for one, like hippos,

Lovely write nonetheless.

Did you know that hippos are fierce fighter and crocodiles will give them a wide birth. Crocs just won't mess with hippos. I enjoyed this well written piece of poetic art. It was a fun piece to read... John

"or would they be ejected by stuffy maitre d's?" LOL! So cute, Brooke!

I loved your fanciful hippos and I look forward to seeing one at the next table. LOL!

Hippos are wonderful animals and so big and ugly.I'd love to have a nice dinner with them. This is a wondrously humorous look at that strange creature. I wonder what a 'Marphasian Hippo' would be like! Well done, Brooke.

This is such a whimsical and fun poem. Being closely associated with a young grandchild like Sawyer must hone your already sharp imagination. (My granddaughter Emily had opportunity to see lots of hippos when she was doing missionary work in Africa. She of course was not tempted to pet them, but I know she would enjoy this.) Love, Jeanie

Thanks so much, Jeannie. Out in the wild I would not be tempted to pet them either, just in make believe land :-) Brooke
