If hippos lived in the city we'd have more kids wanting to go on field trips to the city! lol
And I'd be a faster runner like I was when I was in high school :)
Such a lovely poem, one that made me smile. Very light hearted and funny. I loved it
It would be quite the surprise to go out to eat and have a hippo at the next table ;)
Great job

Your rhyming quatrains have very pleasing rhythm and rhyme. The whimsical nature of hippos in cities is a fun concept. The only line I stumbled on was "laze and thud." I'm sure you considered flood or crud but all in all it was delightful. -Steve

Hello adewpearl, Brooke, I enjoyed reading your poem and found its analogy with modern-day society to be thought-provoking. I don't think the hippos would be welcomed on an airplane. Truth of the matter is that over the years, seating has become smaller to accommodate more while prices increase. Of special note:
for I, for one, like hippos,
and I would love to be
the one to share my table
at any eatery.
(I liked that poem because I've had an idea or a new trend which might be an old trend for diners at restaurants ... one large table (like on cruise ships) for diners who might otherwise dine alone, but might like some company ... chancy but interesting, and one has to keep an open mind and have a sense of humor.)
A fun, but thought-provoking poem. LateBloomer

Hi Brooke,
The thought of a Hippo in a city is an entertaining one, and one loose on the underground in London, certainly raises a smile ...
You'd probably be surprised by how fast they can move on land when they want to.

Very entertaining. I kind of like to share my dinner table with something a bit smaller. I did enjoy the poem and the rhythm it had. God loves you and I do too.

Brooke: very cute and made me giggle. . .sharing a table with a hippo could be a bit awkward I think! But, a fun ride. Do you share all these fun poems with Sawyer? I would bet that he giggles, too, if you do.

Ha, very nice and funny. I like the notes too, there are many would yell that out. It's nice think that people would welcome the unfamiliar in our ranks. I hope so.

I doubt it. people are more likely to shoo away or ban hippos. So a warm and rousing welcome they may get from the zoo.It is a fun poem to read .Imagining them wallowing in the expensive mud inside a spa made me smile.
I did not realise that they were dangerous .They always seem very smug in their slushy homes and somehow they don't have that dangerous 'look'
