Hehe, great fun and your author's note made me chuckle - well worth doing, I think. I spent the whole time I was reading this visualising a hippo society - tea parties, cinemas, nightclubs, commutes. It certainly fired my imagination :-).

I am amused with this poem. You have an extraordinary imagination... It has great rhymes too making it enjoyable to read. I wonder if they can live in one of our cities here in the Philippines? They'll get stuck in a traffic. c", Mae

Would reviewers actually mention the behavior of hippos? Oh my. Your poem is adorable with all the fun 'ifs' a hippo might explore in the city, and I really enjoyed the ending.
Smiles,
Karyn : )

Thanks so much, Karyn - in past happy poems about hippos they have indeed gone out of their way to mention it. LOL :-) Brooke

Between the lines, I see the problem of obesity and a certain prejudice against overweight people. Hippos would be an accurate description. Ever wonder why easy chairs are so big these days?

Well, Brooke, I happen to love hippos, even if they are dangerous. I saw a show where a family had rescued a baby one and raised it. It was amazing to see how they interacted with it - up close and personal. Great poem. I loved it as you can see! 8-)

I see from your other notes that in the animal kingdom, one of the critters responsible for the most human deaths is the hippocampus. Don't tell Spielberg. Somehow, I don't think a hippo accompanied by a John Williams soundtrack would have the same effect as our favorite Great White Shark. Hippos in the city would probably work. With supersize this and that, we are pretty much there lol.

Brooke,
I was watching a show that had people with strange pets. Yes, there was a woman with a pet hippo. That was really strange. Made me smiggle. Hope you're having a great day.

Barbara

Brooke,
What I found crazy was that these people always let their overgrown pets into the house. One had a giant lizard on his chest. It was pretty out there.

People tend to forget wild animals are wild animals.

Hi,Brooke,
"If Hippos Lived In Cities" is an excellent poem with rhythm, good rhyme, good figurative language and imagery (well heeled clients) To me it is a metaphor for equal opportunity for species--could be good for living in a muli-species society.
