If hippos lived in cities,
I wonder if they'd find
that subways didn't suit them,
their seating too confined.
Hi Brooke, you are thee artist in writing poetry my friend, no matter what the subject is about, you offer it with your heart and soul. Its a beautiful comparison of animals and human beings to accept them for what they are, sharing, enjoying what is, when is. Children or grown ups will read this poem, and you will add a smile for them to carry away. Love it. Love Terry to you and Sawyer. xoxo

If people had imagination and enjoyed the whimsical, there wouldn't be any thought of danger, it didn't cross my mind. I am however an animal fanatic and have no fear of them at all! Lovely lines and rhymes to take us away from reality, how welcome is that! Most enjoyable as always. Faye

Thanks so much, Faye - I've written happy hippo poems before, and I never fail to receive dangerous hippo warnings from well-meaning reviewers. LOL :-) Brooke

Delightful bit of fantasy. Okay, I'll give my age away. Who else remembers the song I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas? The line: There's lots of room for him/in our two-car garage/I'll feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage?

LOL - It's hard to imagine that one would need to give a warning about the dangers of actually inviting a hippo to share your table!
I loved this fun poem - It is something that all children can identify with, and yes, I'd love one to come and share my day at the spa - Imagine the size of the mud-bath pool!
I get a bit squeamish though, remembering your poem about how fast and WHY the Hippos shake their tales.
Rose.

Thanks so much, Rose - I've previously written a few happy hippo poems, and several reviewers always issue me warnings. LOL :-) Brooke

Delightful! Your poem reminded me of the animals escaping from the zoo and into the city, then being shipwrecked on Madagascar :-D I particularly loved the hippo :-)

This is great it reminds me of a poem I wrote once about if I Could be an Elephant. Personally I think humans are more dangerous. I love how the rhythm brought us through to the end. This poem made me smile then laugh.
Keep writing.

You struck a chord with this one. I have such memories of a purple ceramic hippo my mom gave me when I was seven. I cherished it with its wide open mouth for years.Wonderful, delightful poem you wrote here. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Yummy!

Yes, they are very dangerous indeed, but I admire your artistic licence in this piece of writing. We are all entitled to flights of fancy every now and then, but I don't think their table manners would be up to scratch. LOL.
