Hippos have yet to meet the Great White Hunter Sawyer. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very good read.

Thanks so much, Roy - there's already far too much angst in the world without my making a contribution to it :-) Brooke

Who wouldn't love this poem? I can't begin to imagine how long it must have taken you to get the perfect meter here, just right. That's what I learned from your course; that what looks and reads like it's humorous and effortless is often a carefully constructed piece of art. It's made me appreciate poetry even more. Congratulations on another poem that both kids and adults can enjoy.

Brooke;
You rhythm's tempo and meter I done exceptionally well which helps it flows smoothly throughout the poem and where the rhyming helps with this flowing and is neither forced nor labored throughout.
Artistically your imagination is ingeniously creative and very inventive And your imagery portrays within the lines and words a picturesque descriptive and expressive wonder Of the hippo trying to fit in the human's habitat of the hand given pat downs and mud baths.
Thanks for sharing and posting this for everyone to read and may are your endeavors be as good as this one.

Hippos aren't dangerous, some humans are just wusses. :-)
I'll take animals anyday! At least we could put our elbows on the table and burp and the hippo wouldn't faint. :-)
I do enjoy your whimsical writing, Brooke. :-)

WOW! Loud applause, Brooke! Bravo! I have no words for how good this is.
Have I ever mentioned, maybe subtly hinted, that you need to find a publisher for kids' books? You're sitting on a gold mine here, with just what you already have. If I neglected to mention it before, I'm telling you now. :)

Phyllis, thank you so much. I'm actually in the process of organizing my portfolio into things like animal poems as a preliminary step to work on finding a publisher. My daughter knows I'm doing it, so she will stay on my case. LOL :-) Brooke

Good, good, GOOD! Thanks for telling me. I'm glad Miranda is on it. I've found that daughters are the best naggers. :)

"I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" comes to mind as I read this funny poem. This speaks to the general idea of acceptance and understanding. Happy days.

Hi Brooke,
What, a dangerous hippo? Where? Brutus, in the pix looks like a friendly sort. I could swear I see a smile forming at the side of his mouth!
Fun dread.
Cheers & Blessings

I guess some people think more literally than others. Funny. Cute, clever, and witty, Brooke, as usual. A sound ballad format. I spot those Hippo's occasionally when I'm eating out. Kenny

Kenny, some people are so literal-minded that it's hard to believe. I wrote a poem based on a picture once, about a ladybug and butterfly who meet on the same leaf and become friends. A nice lady marked me down and explained to me that bugs can't actually talk and make friends. I always have wondered if she believed I actually believed I'd overheard their conversation. LOL :-) Thanks so much for your review :-)
