Which we learned at both church and school ... I think the answer lies in this line, Debbie. Take God out of the school system and society mutates into what we have today.

Good for you ... and for Roy!

God bless you, dear.

Much love,

Sonali

Hello dejohnsrld (Debbie), A timely and thought-provoking Triolet. Of special note:

What happened to the Golden Rule?
Which we learned at both church and school

(Debbie, Part of the answer is: the "me" generation was born. Contributing factors: God has been taken out of the schools as well as the Pledge of Allegiance, and every ten year old and his/her parent thinks they are a lawyer. Ohh, let's not forget the huge, over-inflated egos out there. It's amazing some of them can fit through the door.)

A timely poem - good format. Lots to think about. The world has gone mad. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

I agree and from here I am not sure how to turn back. A very sad situation when people care only about themselves. Thank you. Take care, my friend~Debbie

I love these Triolets. This one worked out so well. I don't have any idea how to improve it because it's perfect the way it is. It flows well. I like the idea of the Golden Rule. Do Unto Others as you would have others do unto you. Way to go! The Golden Rule is no longer being taught. That is what happened!!

The author pens this piece with a questioning mood.

Indeed, what happened to our foremost guide in life? The general change in attitude of people has something to do with its loss of importance.

Long in its history and origins, the Golden Rule and its many versions are embedded in almost all religions, philosophies and culture. But such is the ill nature of man that a few selfish leaders could distort the Rule and have them work only to their advantage. When arrogance, greed and the desire to subjugate and dominate others became prime goals, the Golden Rule lost its meaning.

Hi Debbie,
it's flown the coup... every body's lookin' out for themselves... well that's how it seems, but of course there are still people out there that know and live-in the golden rules... and they're the ones we should always keep our focus on... they are the ones that keep the light shining on life... I just love this poem, so simple, so true and so reflective of today's society... well penned my dear friend.

With our thoughts we create,
the sight of decency,
James xx

Let's see. Hmm. The Golden Rule.

Wait a minute. I think I know that one.

Isn't it something like "Do unto others, before they have a chance to do it to you?" :-)

Thanks for sharing this. JW

I like the W's ... asking questions is a good way to approach this. I don't know the answer , but folks sure are a lot more selfish and unkind than they were in my younger days. Sigh...

I thought you followed this difficult format so well, and also imparted such an important idea. I do know that this was an ABAB competition, but I might have preferred a little less repetition of the line "what happened to the Golden Rule?" That's the only thing that kept this from being a 6 for me, because I really love the message.

This is a triolet and the number of lines and repetition is required. I am glad you enjoyed it, my friend~Debbie

Dear Debbie - good question my friend. I am always amazed at how rotten people can be, and that goes for the small stuff in life too. It just confuses me, like a puzzle I just can't sort out in my mind. Thought provoking piece to ponder. Well penned my friend.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh so true, we have so many children today who have never heard of the Golden Rule. I doubt their young parents have. It's scary. I enjoyed reading your poem.
