This was so well-told; although there were only 50 words, we know exactly who the characters are and what their relationship is. I don't know if it was really funny, although it was humorous. It is true that the funniest jokes reflect a bit of truth, and that is the beauty of your little story. Well done.

This is interesting. I am not sure it's possible, but hey, why not? It makes for a good story and a strong contest entry. Good luck.

This reads like a true story. I believe, sometimes we are better off not knowing. Regarding the final line, I don't think you're telling us the truth, but patronizing us as I'm sure you do the wife. Good luck. Kenny

Thanks for calling me a liar...makes my day!

I'm not calling you a liar--that's rather strong. I'm talking about diplomacy here.

I recant--maybe she is the smarter.

Thanks for making the words large enough to count easily, Mystery Author. Nice story it is at that. Do we ever truly "know" a woman? I seriously have my doubts.

Best of luck to you in the writing prompt.

This could probably be applied to many couples. Enjoyable humorous story, good as a stand alone. Well chosen words to convey the message. Good luck in the contest. Faye

I like the way you work in back story of this couple's long time relationship
Love the narrator's assessment of their knowledge of each other.
I love his admission in the end. Good character development :-) Brooke

This is very cute, but I do not get it, is she smart for staying with him, maybe he is smart because he was able to stay with her with out knowing her.

You're not the only one puzzled by this piece of mine. I was trying for subtlety, but I guess I was a little to obscure and didn't give enough hints. Sorry about that, thanks for reading and commenting anyway. :)

U may want to edit it a bit, to acheive the effect u want, xo

Most women are 'smarter' than men.

As it's fiction, I feel free to say you got conned, but at least you got some loving descendants out of it. Maybe it's more than your 'interest' she's been 'holding', or maybe that's what you're cleverly implying. :-)

Fun and entertaining read.

Good luck and best wishes, Ray.

I'm probably missing something here but I didn't find it very humorous - kind of sad actually. You do have exactly 50 words. Good luck in the contest.

Sorry, I went for subtly. You review is telling me I missed it. Which is fine, no hard feelings on my part. I was trying to show the wisdom of a woman who reveals herself slowly while holding the interest of her husband. Somewhat a reaction to the casual one night stand where almost instantaneous physical intimacy takes place. At least that's the hype. To me, the humorous part is where I finally begin to get what's going on and admire her all the more for it. 55 years of marriage will probably give a different perspective than most have? Thanks for reading and commenting!

It is hard to tell if this is a lament, a statement of fact or a 'men do not understand women' comment.
I understand them but they do not understand themselves, and until they do, most men will remain as confused as women on the nature of women :<) How does that sound? Like a good reason to reject all armchair philosophers?

I enjoyed the read.

It shows the wisdom of a woman who slowly reveals herself. "I understand them" sounds as preposterous as "they don't understand themselves." LOL You put more humor in it than I did, but I was handicapped by a desire for subtlety. Thanks for reading...

I wrote the longest essay on the subject that you can imagine, BUT, six of the ten women who read it agreed and admitted to learning about themselves from it.
