It's a shame our leaders don't take that approach. And because of orders, our soldiers on the ground cannot either. The symbolic picture of Sawyer and your first line: "He who hugs is not inclined
to arm himself for war," is remarkable in its insight of what human nature can be when all of the ugliness is taken out of the picture.

Muffins, thank you so very much :-) Sadly, the leaders are the ones to send other people's children into harm's way whilst they live safely thousands of miles from the conflicts. Brooke

This has a lot of 'punch' for four lines, two sentences. It is truly a thought provoking piece. The message is clear and nicely presented. The poem functions on two levels. It is 'light' and uplifting on its surface, but yet holds a depth of meaning. Well-written and enjoyable to read.

I don't see much witt but I do see a
great observation for all to learn

This is a excellent poem and so true. If you put two Congressmen--who would declare a war into a room--each with a single-shot dueling pistol, and give them fifteen minutes to negotiate or one of them would surly die. You don't know how fast each coward would negotiate to save his life

Of course it should Brooke, our arms are for cuddling, for holding, for holding out for everlasting peace, or in the other way, arms should be laid down.

Great epigram, it made me smile :) Sawyer and his puppy show us the better use of our arms in this sweet picture. If only we could convince the world of this.

Succinct but great in meaning. When arms are opened to a hug, it shows friendship and love. That is what we need on earth and not war. We need peace. Good

Yes, so true espicially in this modern world that is so filled with hate. A short simple piece that really says so much, it would be wonderful if the world could only try this. This is a great picture to go along with your poem, Brooke.

What a nice thought. I love the picture of Sawyer, hugging his puppy dog. I dread thinking about those who must, for one reason or another, arm for war! I must admit I am a huggy-type person. LOL. Miss Sally
