I looked up epigram and found that your poem fit it. The arms of a young child, and big people too, like to hug. It is hard to understand why instinct has not directed our arms to something more peacefu. The arms of a young person or not so young person are controlled by learned behaviors.
Our learnd behaviors are stronger.
Thank you for the poem

Wow!!! This is so deep and has meanings that could just go on and on. I fully enjoyed the writing style but especially the message.

Your poem gives the reader a great deal to think about. Most soldiers go to war knowing killing is wrong, but have no choice, it is either be killed or kill. If they had the luxury to choose, most wouldn't kill.

Jaded, thank you so very much. Yes, boys are not born disposed to kill unless sent to a place where they have to in order to stay alive themselves. All the little boys hugging stuffed animals twenty years ago are today's armed soldiers. Makes me cry. Brooke

Hi Brooke,

What you say is so true.

You know, there are pix and then there are pix, but sometimes certain ones just stay with you. This one of Sawyer just says it all, doesn't it?

I have a couple of the twins that I've framed that will always remain framed!

Have a great Sunday.

Cheers & Blessings
Keep Smilin'... Jax

This is so true at the moment, with the horrific plane crash all caused by war and violence which results in innocent people becoming the victims, a really well thought out epigram, well done,
Andrew

Well you certainly aced the epigram. Love the picture. I love to hug and be hugged and that is what arms are for in my humble opinion. you certainly can't carry a weapon when your arms are folded around love. Love the poem Brooke. Nancy

Hi Brooke,

Good message in your epigram, arms used to hold and comfort are hardly going to seek to injure in a conflict.

Well said.

That epigram would be good on posters all around the world, Brooke. I think a lot of people have forgotten that. It's a lovely little poem, and I can see Sawyer has already learnt that lesson. :) Sandra

This is a superb epigram for all ages, Brooke.
I thoroughly concur with your statement.
I never thought of epigrams as using rhyme, but yours uses "war" and "for" well.
I like the double word play you get from using the phrase "to arm."

I agree with these poetic notions one hundred percent. Only love can conquer hate. Sharing is the only way to defeat greed. Those two things can eliminate war when put into practice. I enjoyed reading this very positive poetic message... John
