Roly poly bugs have always fascinated children, including mine. I really like how you insist that the answer to your question has got to be "yup."
Children everywhere would love to hear this one read aloud, Brooke.

The roly poly is safe to pick up, make a curious child safe in the procedure. This is very well written with an interesting flow of words.

I have never heard of roily poly bugs but it didn't matter as I still loved this fun poem. I was fascinated with insects as a child and today my camera roll is still half full of pictures of insects. Just love them. The poem flowed really well, a good rhythm to it which was in keeping with the roily oily bugs. Loved it. Genya

The real question is...Just what is the name of those bugs? I've always just thought of them as roly poly' s too, a carry-over from childhood whimsy.

Thanks so much, ravenblack - their nickname suits them, so I don't much care about the scientific name. LOL :-) Brooke

Is Brooke a good poet? ...
Some questions don't make any sense
since they don't leave us in suspense.
If there's no chance the answer's no,
then let that goofy question go!
Hah ha, I get a big kick out of it when I can use a poets own words against her, LOL.
We call them "sow bugs" here, but rolly-polley's too.
Good stuff, Brooke. Lighthearted, innocent fun!

Thank you for the laugh and the lovely compliment, my friend - you've made my day even without the sixth star :-) Brooke

My day is always complete when I can help make someone else's. You are very welcome, Brooke. I happen to have an affinity for sow bugs. Hours of entertainment, LOL!

This is a cute poem about a creature most of us don't give much of a thought to. I'm not sure exactly what a rolly poly is but they are certainly well named.

I've seen rolly polys before, I played with them as a child. I just don't know if they are bugs or if they are in another category.

Love this poem, Brooke. I used to love rolling up roly poly bugs, too, but I'm a bit disenchanted with them lately. They are invading our house quicker than we can sweep them out. This was a fun poem and a fun picture. Love, Jeanie

Hi Brooke,
A lovely addition to your insect collection.
I wish I had a magic carpet to take Sawyer to Southern Africa. He would meet the Dung-Beetle. A skinny creature that stands on its hind legs pushing a piece of elephant dung three times its size. It will lay its eggs in the dung ball. First time I saw one - I didn't believe it!

Ron, thank you so very much :-) I wish you had that magic carpet too - I bet he would love ALL the wildlife of Africa :-) That must be a sight to see. Brooke

I never heard of this term, Brook, but I used to play the game with butterflies. They never 'rolled up' until I 'helped' them with some selotape. MWAHA!
Excellent.
Cheers, Ray

Ray, you should Google these bugs - they really do roll up in a ball as their defensive mechanism - very cool :-) I'm laughing at the visual of you taping up the butterflies - such a bad boy :-) Brooke
