Another great one for Sawyer. He seems to be intensely interested in a wide variety of things and you are just the one to record this in both picture and poem. Thank you for sharing this exceptional work. Bob

You are posting poetry so fast I can't keep up. This little poem is so very fanciful and delightful. You delightfully enter a child's imagination and express the wonder found there.

This is so typical of a child, going down low to examine the very tiniest of God's creatures, ants. You certainly can learn a lot about them, as Sawyer is evidently doing. Elephants on the other hand are kind of difficult to figure out because of their size. Who would want to stick around to find out what these large creatures are about? You want to get out of their way jiffy quick, so that you don't become hamburger meat, if they happened to step on you.
Love this cute poem, and the picture of Sawyer so intently watching the ants.

Hello adewpearl, Sawyer has all the wonder that a young boy should. Weather counting ants or standing on his tippy toes, his world is filled with colorful wonder, and that is a beautiful thing. Of note:

We have no banana trees growing --
they wouldn't have breakfast to eat --
You'll never see elephants going
where there is no elephant treat.

(good imagery)

A summertime poem filled with tons of fun. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

My grandson will love this poem as much as I did. I read it aloud several times practicing how I am going to present it to my little one. I like the rhyme and this is my next bedtime story for my baby boy. Thanks.

Hi Brooke,
Your charming poem gave me a good chuckle.
Reminds me of the Scotsman driving along, who suddenly stopped, then sprinkled a pink powder across the road. He told his friend, "That will keep the elephants away." His puzzled friend said, "But there are no elephants in Scotland." "That proves how effective my power is," was the reply.
Ron x

Super entertaining. I've seen a few pink elephants in my neighborhood. For some reason nobody else sees them though. HMM! Anyways, Loved it like always! Thanks.

Hi adewpearl: Your title guarantees you an assessment of excellent from this whimsy folderol lover.

Now on to enjoy the read.

why is it that I demand absolute perfection from you when I do not from lessor poets. Oh I know my friend: it is because you are capable of perfection. with anyone but you I would not suggest change. But at least i give a excuse for offering what i deem constructive criticism for what is so near perfect.

I was confused because I thought 'they' in line four with the now obvious antecedent of 'elephants' from the first line should have been 'I' as the antecedent for the ideas expressed in lines 2 & 3.

And, the rhymes chance/ants feels forced and (dare I suggest a line to you, a master?) I would love it if lines two and four in your last verse were:

And obvious reason is nice
I'll revel in looking for mice.

it is a great double visual, one of mice slinking around and on of rearing and scared monstrous elephants.

Oh hell. Do not pay attention to me. I am forever just ponderously revealing unenlightening trivia.

I don't know if they should be living in Encino because Encino doesn't have the right stuff to feed them, like bananas
I am a huge fan of proximate rhyme, so I rather like chance and ants
but they don't have mice along their daily walks LOL - it's a nice suburb ;-)
Hey, even if I'm not going to follow these specific suggestions, I always appreciate thoughtful feedback - if nothing else, I can tell you really read the poem, which is dubious for the folks who just say a generic "nice job" Brooke :-)

Oh hell Brooke, you know that folks who really review as I do are as rare on this site as elephants in Encino

also, I wasn't really serious, just having fun with 'The Master".

This poem is so cute and very well written. I'm guessing you sometimes get ideas from these pictures, but I'm not sure how the little boy looking at ants made you think of elephants though, lol!
