Brooke, You just have to love that Kid! His love for ants and bugs are amazing. Sawyer is probably the only one in his state who loves and respects insects like he does!! Great little poem. Sawyer will be so proud of his grandma when he grows up. Smiles and Smiles for you and Sawyer. Carole

Thank you so much, Carole. He picked up a roly poly bug during that same walk :-) Maybe Miranda can get him a pet tarantula. LOL :-) Brooke

Brooke, your poem is fun as always when it is written about Sawyer. How clever to start with elephants and end with ants.

Thanks so much, Pili - he has been to the zoo several times and loves all the zoo animals, but he also loves the bugs who share his neighborhood. After all, they are neighbors. LOL Brooke :-)

LOL, one of my sons was fascinated with ants for years, he had those plastic ant houses with sand , spent hours
studying them and became an " expert". Let's see how Sawyer do with his neighbors.. Pili

I had an ant farm too as did my kids - I think Sawyer has to be a bit older to be trusted with one :-) It's difficult to explain to a 26 month old that he can't let the ants out or drop their home. LOL :-) Thanks so much for your review :-) Brooke

True, you will know when the time comes... You are so welcome. Pili

This is so very true. Every boy likes playing with wildlife and in the absence of big game, little insects have to do. I used to play with ants as well.

I guess I have never grown up, otherwise
why am I so enchanted with your beautifully
told tale of the majestic elephant, the
gentle beast, you know, the one where
Sawyer walks down the street, no elephants
to sight here, only ants.
Love this one

A charming and well rhymed poem (as always). You manage to find the most amazing things to write about. Loved this stanza, it's so funny.
"Whenever my mom takes me walking,
no elephants nibble our trees,
and nobody wants to be gawking
straight into an elephant's knees...."
Great child-like humour. Pete

Hi Brooke
How I've missed these poetic gems.
The first thing that popped for me was the pairing of "elephant/Encino". But then I had to wonder where Encino is located. What state? I've heard the name, but couldn't tell you if Encino was in Florida or Washington state. I learned that Encino is "an affluent neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California." ... affluent? ... fat, loaded, well-endowed, but still an unlikely home for an elephant that should remain in the jungles of Africa or India. I might add here that my house should not be the home of the workaholic ant either. Everything in its place. Zoos are poor substitutes for many animals.
Of course, the nonsense jumps out at the reader.
"You'll never see elephants going
where there is no elephant treat."... We work for money, elephants work for bananas...how true.
"nobody wants to be gawking
straight into an elephant's knees." ... children would love the idea of an elephant living right next door. A storybook on the idea of this poem would also demonstrate Big & Small to a child.
Nicely penned!

Kimbob, thank you so very much for your attentive and thoughtful and generous review - it's so good to receive a review from you again :-) And it reminds me I tucked your PM away and have not answered it yet! I will do so shortly :-) Encino is a lovely suburb that contains such places as Pat Sajak's humongous mansion but also nice tree-lined streets like Sawyer's where the houses are much more modest than their prices might indicate. LOL For what my daughter and her hubby paid, they could have gotten a mansion in Tennessee, but not so in the suburbs of L.A :-) I'm so glad you enjoyed this poem, my friend :-) Brooke

Hi Brooke, it's similar here in Canada. People who live in and around Toronto pay dearly for a home. If they sold it and moved to Saint John, they could afford a very nice home indeed.
It's good to be back, my dear friend.
hugs
Kimbob

Great job again. Very darling poem. The rhyming is really wonderful. It has a great flow.
I love the last stanza ...so next time my mom takes me walking, I guess I 'ill look for ants.
Ensuing and walking don't rhyme but it sounds good.

I love this 'whimsical' piece, Brooke. It speaks to the great ability of children to suspend belief and entertain all sorts of notions. As always, terrific. :) Bev

Well I would imagine that young Sawyer remains the spark and inspiration for a host of whimsical musings. This is surely one such delight. Well done.
