Pilgrims: A Cautionary Tale

We knew they would come, we just didn't know why.

Yes I remember well "To serve man". Finding out at the very end, just when it was too late, that it was a cookbook. It's all in how you look at it. I loved that this poem reminded me of that while alluding to the pilgrims migration to "The new world". I don't know if you meant that part but I thought about it.

What delightful but creepy fun. I loved The Twilight Series. I knew the story couldn't take place now since our President has no balls. All built on the play of words with serve. Good one, Dean.

I used to watch those twilight zone episodes too. I think if they ever decided to bring them back, the graphics would be so much better today. Funny, how we thought they were so good back in the day, but the special effects can't hold a candle to what's out there now.

Hi Dean,

That was one of my favorite episodes of The Twilight Zone. I remember it because my father had to explain the ending to me, lol.

I really love your take - such goulash fun, hee hee. Get it?

Hugs,
Lou

Wow. I thought I recalled all the Twilight Zone episodes. But this one is only vaguely familiar. Now I want to check it out. Didn't our government turn the tables on the aliens and do the same exam or something? I liked how you took the term "pilgrim," and used it as a vehicle in the story and understood how in a modern sense it could be used as another form of life leaving a planet where they were, let's say persecuted. As always, the hard work of getting a mood set in each poem and having a unique twist to an old idea is the bomb!

Well, I am very pleased that you liked it, Stan. However, there are many on this site who actually take offense to my animations. I was even told by a very popular writer here that it is "signing" my work so it can be readily recognized as being mine. I took exception to that comment. They may as well have said that I am outright cheating.

All I am trying to do is put an entertaining poem out there for people to read and enjoy. And I'm very happy to know that you are one of those people who do. Thanks so much again for your wonderful complimentary comments and the exceptional rating. I truly appreciate it!

solid rhyming couplets
I love the Twilight Zone and am a fan of "campy"
great proximate rhyme of scorched/course fun play on words with come to "serve"
clever pairing of turkeys and Pilgrims LOL
I love gallows humor, so it's not surprising how much I'm now laughing :-) Brooke

Hah, yeah, doesn't it though, BLACKDYKE, LOL? you know they claim that brain food is always very good for you. Unfortunately, aliens (and zombies too, apparently) have a completely different idea of what passes for brain food than we do. YIKES!

Thanks so much for the fun review, my friend. I truly appreciate it!

Ha, well, coming from you, Margaret, I'll just have to accept it, LOL.

Thanks for your complimentary review and exceptional rating, Margaret. I truly appreciate that you, at least, still think I'm the King of horror...I think? Heh-heh

Fun, eerie, exceptional. You make me want to start watching all the old time scary episodes. My mom never let me watch anything even remotely scary. When the Twilight Zone came on, I didn't even watch an episode because I was conditioned not to. Maybe I missed out on funny weird stuff. I love your writing.

Thank you very much, Judy, i really appreciate that! You can still catch all of the old Twilight Zone episodes on YouTube in their entirety. Just go to their site and type in Twilight Zone To Serve Man, and you can watch it uninterrupted and commercial free. They're pretty tame by today's standards, but still lots of fun to watch.

What a gory poem and the ingredients of that supper would make someone puke! I know your imagination took the better of you as usual. Great poem, Dean. Well done.
