Love the way you excuse yourself for going off at a tangent in the first paragraph! Great humour throughout! Much entertained over my early morning cup of tea on a Saturday morning. My wife beside me is thumbing through the mailbox junk I omitted to put in the trash before she came home last night. I suspect that I may be in for a similar experience before the morning is over!

ROFL! Mikey, THIS is your talent...short works. Forget novels, because frankly you lose track and, I think, get bored. You stopped posting to the book days ago. But these precious gems are absolutely masterful! THIS is a great example of what makes you one of the best. I loved these lines:

The proprietor paces behind the counter like a bartender, chatting up the drunks... er... a... customers

Once they have mined the tanzanite there, it will all be gone. If you do not get it now, you will NEVER be able to get it again.

There is no way we are going to drive home with these woman and listen to how wonderful this jackass is.

"Honey" in this context, can be loosely translated to mean, "you that have me over a barrel with no choice but to buy you this crap that you want".

As my wife sits there in total denial, I, the great enabler, drive home.
_____

I'm honored to give you my last six for this masterpiece.

You are so right! I did get bored. Hahaha. I was okay for the first one, but the sequel... Tired of looking at these guys! It goes a little better if I take a day off between chapters. But, I do need another story. I'm so encouraged to know you like these short pieces. They are what comes to me the most naturally. I think that's why I have characters like the Bard. He's an excuse to throw some schtick into the mix. Thank you so much. I'm honored and smiling!! mikey

You could easily win a first place trophy for short works if you concentrated on them and kept posting a lot. You'll get tons of fans, too. And that's what moves you up the ladder. It's much much harder to attract new readers for a book in progress, but people love to read short pieces, especially with odd characters and humor. Go for it! Wrap up the book and move on. :)
