Living on the SE coast of MA, we are very much "beach" people year round. 4 wheel drive and we're there. I yearn for the ocean. It calms me and gives perspective.

So, when I read your poem about faith, I was struck. YES, watching the waves gives me faith.

As well, when reading about faith as air, I felt that breathing in gives me the faith to persevere . Your words brought that felling out.

Your Quatrain was so beautiful, flowing, and inspiring,
Rubylou

These are wonderful quatrains asking if faith is something tangible, like a wave. I was struck by the incredible artwork with this poem. My very best wishes for the competition, Brooke, Giddy

Short and sweet, I like it..I know it's a contest but would it be more grammatically correct to have said the greatest of all treasures (plural)?

maybe consider:

Is faith the breath that draws in air
before it takes its measure,
or is it when I give my heart,
the greatest love I treasure?

just my thoughts

Thanks, dip, for your feedback - I was speaking of treasure as a collective word, like - all the treasure in the world could not tempt me away from you. :-) Brooke

I guess only one can answer that question, and that is she or he who invents it.
Good questions, and one I would do well to answer....perhaps in time.
Good luck with the entry.
Best wishes,
RGstar

Really lovely Quatrain entry. Faith - that elusive strand that holds us to our groundings, be it God, a supreme being, or a mystical thought. Without that bit of faith, we are all lost souls - you have to believe in something.

Very descriptive - and the artwork is really nice.

Good luck in the contest. Jean

I admired your descriptions of faith--the questions make your reflections even more thought provoking. The rhymes and artwork reinforce the mood perfectly. Best wishes in the quatrain contest--you are the master of the form! -Joan

Breath is the animal thing, involuntary-not a logic clash, a variance. (Stretching my review.) This is a brace of excellent quatrains, in my opinion.

A philosophical reverie here causing us to 'dream big' with the metaphorical wave that is Faith at our back to urge us on - filled with effervescence

I liked that this wasn't necessarily religious. It was faith on a different level. Nice imagery in the giving of the treasure heat. Nice rhythm and great form.

This is an interesting, thought provoking read, Brooke, and I liked the picture very much.

Nice use of alternate rhyme, great flow, meter and cadence.

Did you mean "the greatest of all treasure", or "the greatest of all treasures"?

Good luck in the contest, love, Y.

Thanks so much, Yelena :-) I used treasure in a collective sense.
