It is better to love and lost than to never have loved at all- but at times it sure does not feel that way. To face that truth- "that" references the title and the description but neither are in the body of the poem. Just a suggestion, but I would replace "that" with "the" or leave it as is incorporating the title as the first line- " We live on-/ in courage, I was the first to face that truth/ the things we had now gone."

Hi GW,

I enjoyed reading your poem. I agree that it's better to have loved and lost. It's wonderful that it's already won the All Time Best award too. Look forward to more of your work.

Kat

Very deep and poignant. I'm not sure if she died or left for another, but the words strike a cord in my heart. Sad, but this is the way of life, sometimes.

Hi. A well written we poem. The meter and rhyme are good. The images clear and strong. Ah,the end of a dream, when to walk, never easy to know.padumachitta

Oh boy, a black rose with a pin prick little puddle of blood gives the indication of a relationship that has gone wrong.

Cold was her heart for the man she loved...
Nicely done. John

Powerful and yet truthful. I see the relationship gone wrong. The black rose represents this well, with a touch of blood. Sad.

Difficult as it is to "live", it REALLY is better to have loved and lost because it teaches us our capabilities; shows us the way to better partner choice(s). From childhood I have always believed it is about choice: that there are many who like us but only minimal people who complement us.
