You have such skill in viewing scenarios from a child's perspective. Hopefully , the books one reads to children create lasting mental images. I have tried to identify this book that Sawyer is posting with great determination, but have failed! Altogether a most creative poem of a library drop.

Now that's a delightfully different take on the old library
drop box. I suppose it does resemble a giant maw.
Not that I'm to anxious to read what comes out the
other end.
But then, I usually wear gloves when reading library books--borrowers all seem to be sloppy eaters.

A very playful poem.

Peace, Lee

Lee, thank you so much, my friend :-) I'm sitting here smiling at the thought of you donning your hospital gloves to touch a dirty old library book. LOL I appreciate your generous sixth star :-) Brooke

You've done it again, Brooke. Taken a simple library book drop-off, and that mysterious metal/wooden mouth comes alive, provoking the imagination of the child. It then become a thesis on the effects of placing his discoveries/new worlds into the mouth of the beast. Truthfully, it's really about the wondrous possibilties of reading, but this musing over the library chute gives the poem charm and originality. I love the idea of book about pirates giving it a hard time as they poke it with swords. Amusing, fun, and inevitably inventive.

I sometimes think you wait inside the Fanstory Library chute, ready to review or reply as soon as I write to you...lol

PS I realised today when I went to your profile that you were born just a few months after me; 1951 babies. 'Twas a good year. It means nothing in particular, but I thought I'd share.

I've always thought it was the perfect year since it allowed us to spend our entire teen years in the 60s, the best decade history has ever had :-)

I smiled through this one. A perfect balance between narrative and the child. A storybook of thoughts and movement with a little fantasy added.
The imagery is clear and concise which allows the mind space to roam.
Good write.
Best wishes,
RG

What a quirky and imaginative piece, getting inside the belly of the book-drop beast to see just what's roaming around in there.

You have come up with a really cute way of describing all the wonderful topics that may be found in children's books.

Hi Brooke,

You write the cutest poems about your handsome grandson. They're my favorite kind to read. You are a great poet and it's always a joy to read your work.

This is sheer genius! I read it to my hubby, and he loved it. Then I read him the Tiger poem and a few from your portfolio. He agrees with me that you should be published and says you are MUCH better than Shel Silverstein. He is a verrrry picky guy, a real critic when it comes to the written word in any form, and movies too. There is very little he will rave about, but he raved about your poems.

He also said you're nuts if you don't put all your effort into finding a good publisher cuz he thinks you could make millions over time, including your progeny, since the royalities would go to your heirs forever. I told him all about Sawyer and he agreed that it would a huge benefit for him... no worries about college expenses ever.

You don't know Mark, so I guess you will just have to take my word for it that this kind of enthusiasm from him is practically unheard of. And the fact he said you're "nuts" if you don't find a publisher is an insult, so I apologize for him for that. But it shows how sure he is, like me, that you have literary GOLD here, tons of it, enough for at least three books to start, with the illustrations being Sawyer's photos (or let an artist use his pics as a model for sketches if you prefer).

Mark reads every chapter I post and sometimes won't like parts and I often take his advice, tho he usually likes what I write. THen of course, he loves me, so he feels he has to be nice, I guess. But I've read him stuff from other fanstorians and he's not been very impressed, his main criticism being it's been done before, nothing original. His reaction to your work was just the opposite, since he praised your originality and had NOTHING negative to say whatsoever. Not a single thing. All enthusiastically positive. :)

Phyllis, if you ever get stupid and leave Mark, please tell him I'll be more than happy to console him. LOL Thanks so very much, my friend, for your supportive comments and generous sixth star, and please thank Mark for me :-) Brooke

I must say that I have never looked at the library book return in this manner. The picture you drew could have come from the imagination of a small child thinking of door of the drop as a mouth eating the books.

Ah, look at the Cute Little One returning his library book. It is good that he's interested in reading. One day he can read all the wonderful poems his grandmother wrote to his grandchildren :)
