This is the second such work that I have come across today that depicts this descending (repeated refrain) within the frame of each verse. You have mastered it very well in this delightful tale of being transfixed by up from down. Well done.

Hi Brooke,
Another good quatern for your 'Sawyer Collection' I think. A fun image of a child figuring out the ups and downs and all arounds ...

Hi Brooke,
An interesting poem full of fun images.
I guess for little-ones the whole world is up.
Sawyer appears to have found something special.

This is such fun and as many of your poems, I see a fantastic children's book. Pre school works a lot with "up, down, under, through, beside"
Another concept confusing to kids is "Yesterday, today, and tomorrow" I use to have a student who asked me every day, "Now, is today tomorrow?"
bet there's a poem there somewhere.

Brooke: fun read with a life's message to contemplate...sometimes, since getting "old", I'm not sure what is up and down the stairs anymore. So, I can empathize. Perfect rhythm and rhyme. Linda

The wife thought it sounded like:
Willie Wonka~
Maybe he can find up, in that cool elevator.
Lord,
Knows we goin
Down, Down, and maybe turned around.
Great write.
I hope, he gets a copy, of all this...
When he's old enough.

Thank you so much, Am, for your generous sixth star. Tell your wife I'm thrilled it reminded her of Willie Wonka. :-) Brooke

An excellent poem! This is an adorable and sweet poem! The author's words are clear, creative and descriptive. The artwork is adorable and fits the theme of this poem
well. I found myself thinking about up and down through
Sawyer's eyes....

You are always able to capture the innocence of youth and enable us to smile along with you. Your words are so often infectious!
Particularly like the line: Or in a sundae's cherry top? For some reason a smile started on my chubby face! Thanks again for a fun read. Jean

Thanks so much, Jean - I'm so glad you like that line because it is not the original line. I changed to a sundae example at the very last minute during all my revisions :-) Brooke

Another wonderful Sawyer inspired poem. These are so much fun they bring back wonderful memories of life was so much simplier and everything was fascinateing. It's amazing how children can find wondeer in everything around them. I wonder too if squirrels find up with ease. Good stuff there, Brooke.

Brilliant, Brooke. I loved this quizzical poem about where up is as told from a child's POV. I once did something similar about the word 'in' (about forty years ago!) but when compared to yours, mine was rather lame.
Loved the effervescence of this Quatern. It's joy is positively contagious. Another great addition to a children's book of poetry.
