I thought you did a wonderful job of really putting yourself out there. It's ridiculous to consider the notion that real friendships wouldn't occur between like-minded people on site. Ridley Williams, though much older than I am, is the first guy I really hit it off with on site and we talk consistently, have each other's emails, etc. This site is absolutely a place to make friendships with other artists that you can then bounce ideas off of. Great work on this post and my condolences for Pam, Songbyrd and anyone else either no longer with us or just going through a rough patch. Thanks for sharing.

Everything you say is so true. I wonder where some have gone and hope all is well.
Your words brought tears to my eyes because I realised just how close friends can become, and as you say, others don't understand. I also have friends here that I share with and I do believe we are closer than friends in the real world. (Not too sure that it is the real world.') We are all writers here in one form or another, and we understand each other. I think its a lovely world to be in.
hugs, Liandra

An excellent point Mike. We've all suffered losses here and it's hard to know, when someone disappears, whether it's voluntary, economic, or tragic. And it certainly does matter. May all our missing frinds, those who hold pieces of our hearts, find peace. Hugs. - Nancy

Michael, This is a wonderful tribute to your friend Songbird and also to Pam. I don't remember ever having a review from her or reading any of Songbird's work. However, I did review Pam's work and occasionally she reviewed mine. Your loving thoughts for these ladies makes you a gracious member of our community. Carole

this is a sad moment in time. losing one member would've been too much and losing two is just horrible! i loved and still love pam's poems. i loved the way she would write "smile" after every review! and i did just that.
thank you for sharing this delicate piece!

Yes I too have been amongst the 'friends' that have been concerned with Gungalo's sudden stop and I did have tears in my eyes as I read of her passing, so yes, I too feel that I have lost a friend, whether a Fan Story friend or no, still a friend that will be missed. Nicely written.

Hi Michael:)
Thank you for your message about Gungalo and Songbyrd. Yes they were friends to many of us at Fan Story. I was sorry to learn of their passing. Over the years Marilyn and I have developed many great friendships. Many have just slipped away for unknown reasos and we just remain wondering if they will be back.
I wish we had a place in the Forum to help track missing members.
Very good article. I wish I had a few more stars for you.

A lovey essay about how you feel about the passing of Pam, and also Songbyrd, (I take the photo is of her)
I have not had the pleasure of ReceivinR reviews from her, I am sorry about her passing. Pam was one of my first fans when I started over a year ago, and I looked forward to her brilliant work. I could message her and ask her advice, she was always prompt in replying, and always with a "smile).
I agree with you that we can feel a great connection to most of our fans, it sometimes feels like having pen pals.
Well done
Mary

A touching tribute, Michael, and echoes how I feel about the people I share my writing with. I agree, and you phrased it so well, that these are "our own kind." I have a friend I met online many many years ago now, and it took me nearly two decades to understand why she confided in me and other writers more than she ever did with her own flesh and blood, about her writings, her stories, her art. It is something sacred to feel comfortable enough to share one's thoughts and feel respected for them.

You put it so very well with your story. There are so many things that are automatically understood just by being fellow artists. All that it means is already known. I've never been able to explain it to anyone but another artist. Thank you so much for your response and wonderful review. michael
