This is something I have pondered over and over in my mind. When I was in my early 20's I was out with some friends having an early morning breakfast at village Inn after being out at the bar. One of the guys were saying that it doesn't matter what you do today, in a hundred years, nothing will matter what today brings. I was shy and didn't speak up, now, 25 years later, I wish I would of spoke up, maybe changed his mind would have changed his future. I will never know.

We are the descendants of our ancestors. Their heritage, joy and pride is in our blood. If we do not appreciate their achievements, how are we ever going to achieve anything great if we forget our roots and their achievements.
Good question and the answer are quite plain to know. Smiles.
Without our ancestors, there will be no us, nor any achievements if we failed to acknowledge who we are and in the blood that flows in our veins, :)).
Great write and well pen.
Cheerio, Ritchie. :))

The Native American in this picture shows the pride he as in his ancestors by wearing the full regalia and kneeling.

The words are true we can't expect something we don't give

I don't think you need the question mark at then end of the third line because the last line is a continuation of the question the question mark should be put where the period is.

Keep writing

In these days of 'me' and 'now' and 'instant' it is good to be reminded that we are just one link in a continuous chain. What we have, we owe to our ancestors - and how we leave it, we owe to our children. If we cannot build on our heritage and leave things in better shape for our children, we are a poor generation.

Probably not. Pride in one's heritage is the foundation of the good pride that goes into caring about what one accomplishes. This simple question is very good food for thought.

Very wise words, though perhaps your 'ancestors' were white Anglo Saxon invaders, rather than Red Indians, as in the picture, though you may be inferring the invaders were the baddies (as they mostly were it seems), and the uprooted and slaughtered Indians were those abused, and that's the lesson.

Cheers, Ray

There is a kind of poetic justice/karma suggested by your wise saying. Or perhaps it is the biblical 'reap what you sow.'

Thought-provoking piece, forcing the reader to examine his own life.

How very true. If we don't acknowledge our ancestor's triumphs, why would we expect ours to be? A thought-provoking poem. my friend~Debbie

This is a very interesting poem to say the least... I love the message and the artwork as well. You say a lot, in just a few lines...
