WoW! it is a sledgehammer blow !And a warning to the younger generations to pay some respects to their older generation I can see that this is a chapter from a book. I will take a look at it soon..

A pertinent question indeed. The canoe in your picture and its occupant are magnificent and one could not hesitate to pay tribute to such an ancestor. You pose a question we perhaps should be asking of ourselves more often, Giddy

Great art work and words and question here.

We should look back at the hard road our ancestors

took in the past, unfortunately many don't acknowledge

what our ancestors achieved in the past.

I guess our achievements today could be remembered by some

or not remembered at all.

Dear poet, as one who follows native spirituality and culture this was a gem to me

If no pride was taken in the achievements
Of our ancestors,
Will your achievements be worthy
To be remembered by your descendants..yes indeed would they rememebr??

Great job!

Very thought provoking words you have written. Makes on reflect back on their life and look ahead to the future at the same time.

this is kind of like a puzzle that makes the reader look at the poem a couple times. respect for those ancestors' achievements is important. many of us have lost contact with those that came before us.

Good question. I believe pride was there many year ago, but as things progress, the soldiers are weary of political correctness. Beautifully done and keep on asking those important questions!

Aptly delivered in few words but with strong and powerful message imbedded in this work. It is a delivery of 'as a matter of fact.' No disputing your muse at all. Without appreciation of the past, the present and future will be swallowed in obscurity. Nice one

Very well written this short oem. In fact it's a meaningful question expressed in a wonderful way. It makes us think and I understand what you mean. Like to read a lot more poetry from you. Well done!!! Fia

Hi deepwater,

As the fashion among the current crop of 'historians' seems to be to denigrate and deride everything our forebears did and achieved, I suspect ours will be a generation remembered for the collapse of our society.

As Pliny said, He who forgets his past is doomed to repeat its failures.
