Oh, a budding engineer then? My hubby used to take things apart when he was a little kid. Drove his mom nuts, but now he's Director of Engineering at a great company and has 17 patents. So don't discourage Sawyer!

I love the sound of this poem... read it out loud. And the message is great too. We take so much for granted that kids are clueless about. Good reminder. :)

Thanks so much, Phyllis. He gets it out of the table and carries it around, then makes Miranda put it back, which he can't do yet, so he can take it apart all over again. LOL Thanks so much - 17 patents, sounds good to me :-) Brooke

I really lucked out. Not only is Mark sweet as can be, ten years younger and healthy, but he's a genius. Not to mention stand-up-comic funny. He's done shows at Second City and all over the Chicago area. Did I mention he once picked up my car? Goes to the gym twice a week, fixes everything and anything that breaks inside or outside the house and on the cars. He has only one flaw: he doesn't like to admit he was wrong or did something foolish. But then, he's a guy. :)

Yeah, with all those things in the positive column, I could put up with that flaw :-)

And he even has a full head of thick, fluffy hair at age 59. Yep, I'm bragging, but in a humble way, because I KNOW I don't deserve such a great guy. In fact, I always tell HIM that his "only flaw" is bad taste in women. :)

Wow Brooke, you've done it again! I don't know what it is about your poems, but they are always a delight to read. This one explores the mysteries of the world and how somebody (I'm presuming a child) thinks that because you're older, you should know how these things work. A well-written piece (yet again) and I really can't get enough of your poetry!

Another fun poem and happy Sawyer! I think you may be referring to that child who thinks his grandmother knows everything! Your alliteration is just fabulous and rhyming well done. Thank you again, Brooke, for a wonderful poem. Alana

They're all deeply embedded in your grandmother's imagination, Sawyer. That's where they are, little buddy, and they only come out when she decides to grace us with one of her poetic works of art.

Just ask her, shell tell ya'!

first of all, congratulations on your Pantoum/Sonnet win! It was well deserved.

This is a darling poem with excellent rhyme and meter.
Nice use of alliteration with "bubbles/burst/breezes/blow"
Children are full of questions like these. Surely someone knows! Nancy

What a wonderful poem, told I assume through the eyes of the young boy, I have to be very careful reviewing your work, the problem is you see that you make writing beautiful well flowing poetry look so easy, this is a wonderful exanple and I love every word of it!

My day is complete. Grandmother you did it again. You captured a million dollar smile and placed on a well worded poem. Blessings to all.

Terrific toing and froing between 'somebody' and nobody', Brooke.

I'd prefer 'nobody' than a 'know it all' :-)

I often trip on mixed meter, but this flows extremely well and is VERY entertaining.

Somebody told me
that nobody's known
whose body has slimmed
and their brain cells have grown.

I guess that is why
I'm a smart-arse alone,
who likes his own writing,
like dogs like a bone.

"RUBBISH", they yelled, "here's ONE star." LOL.

My defence is it only took one minute.

Cheers, Ray

Life is just a huge load of discovery and interesting things to learn. This is such a sweet verse relating all the curiosities a child could wish to know. Excellent rhyming and choice of words. Smooth and most enjoyable read. Faye
