This poem definitely made me "jive for joy". ;)
I was actually with my sister when I read this, and I shared the poem with her. She plays a bit of guitar and has a seven-month-old little boy named Wes. Well, she set your poem to a few chords on the guitar, and Wes loved it! He bounced and laughed the whole way through - and she sang it three times! Just proves my point, that you have a splendid grasp of rhythm and beats that appeal to children and adults, alike. Thank you for so generously sharing your work with us.

oh yay! your use of mixed meter is flawless here Brooke, as always - you're on a roll, big-time. The poem takes on a life of its own and trips off my tongue!

I guess you can't put a five-year-old at a juke joint, can you?

Love all the Js. It seems to me it's no coincidence that certain jazzy words begin with J. It has a sort of slithery sound. I'm thinking the little blue pills would sell even better if the were called Jiagra. Uh-huh!

I'll behave.

Peace, Lee

Sorry, Brooke, this is a very cute poem, and I'm desecrating with my sordid tangents.

I'm jivin' to joy, and I must confess,
if anyone minds, I couldn't care less --
but if you are thinkin' of joinin' this song
just jiggle your toes, and come dancin' along.

Hi Brooke, I cannot believe this is you, I am so used to read different kinds of poetry with Sawyer, and here you are with a girl, and I am laughing so much, reading your poem. Excellent. Love Terry xoxo

Thanks so much, Terry - the girl is the child my daughter is a nanny for. She has been her nanny since Nora was born. She is practically a member of the family :-) Brooke

Hi. Get out and dance for life, regardless of which drum beat it is. A good reminder to listen to magic music on the weekend. padumachitta

My daughter and her husband bought a house a couple of days ago, which means she did everything - he is not a paperwork, filling out applications kind of guy. And I know everything she went through, so I feel for you :-)

A funny, happy sing a long poem, that flows beautifully on the page, I particularly like the emphasis of the letter 'j' throughout, it adds a lot to the poem and brings it alive.

Good rhyming couplets in your quatrains.
nice upbeat rhythm and positively a poem for children.
Complimented by a picture which embodies the essence of the poem

Your beaty, uplifting poem certainly made me what to dance, and I felt it was best sung, rather than simply read. I thought the closing line of the first stanza was perfect, and the opening couplet of the second stanza summed up perfectly what life should be about. Great work, Brooke.

Blessings,

~ J.
