Hi Dean,

Your description line is so very poignant and says so much. Well, it looks like we're finally pulling out of Afghanistan. I wonder what other senseless wars our future leaders will conjure up. Nicely done.

Hugs,
Lou

This is an interesting piece. I always love the short ones, they pack so much into so little. Great job and good luck.

Excellent response to this writing prompt. This entry gets my vote. Love the phrase, "plumes of prayer". Can't imagine what it would be like to be a soldier in harm's way. Wonderful tribute to our armed forces.

And there were probably millions of these plumes during WW2 on the Russian front, in no man's land outside the frigid trenches. Good luck in the contest.

I'd imagine, and in Bastone, the Battle of the Bulge, the Ardennes Forest...among so many others too numerous to mention here.

Thanks, RB, for your encouraging review.

This is a heartbreaking entry. But, being an old Vietnam vet, I can relate to every word. The picture really does add to your words. I wish you good luck. Bill

This is a fantastic short piece. I think it will be a solid contest entry for sure. I've entered this contest before in the past, it's definitely a tough one, so I commend you on crafting this piece. Great work and thanks for sharing.

Thanks, 'Chup, I certainly appreciate the kind review. It was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Just sixteen words, I thought? How hard can it be? I found out...

Definitely one of the most thoughtful and original entries, mystery writer.

A perfect memorial tribute to those brave lost young men who will never grow old.

Best wishes, Ted

Yes, this is a fitting tribute to the fallen soldiers who gave their life to protect the country. their only consolation in the field of battle where bodies are taken before your eyes, is a fervent prayer to God, carried by the freezing winds. I appreciate your poem. Bravo!
