I am glad you did, as I feel like you do that our soldiers are the real heroes we should be honouring daily for their courage and willingness to give their lives. Your words are most appropriate and meaningful. Good illustration and congratulations on your win. Faye

Many have fought and many might have said a prayer that they might return home and keep them safe in the war that they fight. The picture goes great with few words, yet strong meaning.

A well deserved moment for the heroes of today , yesterday and tomorrow as war seems to be a common place in the make up of our world. Perhaps in generations to come it will take a different form and we may fight a real enemy instead of fighting ourselves.

We can only pray for that to come to fruition one day, RGstar. War is senseless, for the most part. But sometimes, you have to draw a line in the dust of humanities evil, and dare them to cross it. Genocide, ethnic cleansings in Ethiopia and the Ukraine. The killing of millions of innocent Jewish, blacks, gays and Romanian peoples during the Nazi Holocaust of WWII. There are some things worth fighting for.
Thanks so much for your insights and review, my talented friend.

"Scared Soldier's Prayer" You know, I've often wondered how a soldier feels when he goes into actual combat. I would imagine that he would be frozen with fright. Well done with the remembrance.

Very nice Dean. It's a good, respectful, and creative way to pay homage. I think the frigid wind beginning adds intensity to the desperation of the soldier's situation. It gives wings to the idea of the prayer flying heavenwards. Excellent use of he prompt and well done on your win.

To the author of Scared Soldier's Prayer. You have my vote and my respect for your poetic words and for the author notes, " I couldn't allow the week to go by without publicly showing my utmost respect, in some small way, for our fallen heroes" Awesome! Carole

Thanks for your support, as well as you touching review of this poem, Carole. I just missed the deadline for the Memorial Day contest, and had something like this one in mind to enter. I decided to revise it, then enter it here.
Being a veteran myself, I understand the sacrifice involved from friends and family, as well as the heroes we lose in battle each and every day.
May the rest of them still deployed return home to their families and loved ones safe, and sound. That is my prayer.
Thanks so much for your wonderful review, and most generous rating, my friend. All are appreciated.
