A very sweet/sad portrayal of one of life's certainties. Memories in bits and pieces with occasional clarity. I've watched my own parents live this trial.
Excellent piece.

So sad but true. You have captured what I have experienced with at least one of my grandparents. Unfortunately she was in a nursing home 3,000 miles from me. I hate that she felt so lonely and confused so much.

This poem says exactly what aging is. It is written in the perfect syllable count for the 5-7-5 contest. Good luck.

I was attracted by your compelling, single-word title. Your use of the original "Spiral memories" and poignant "loneliness" is quite effective. Best wishes to us both in the contest. -Joan

Great haiku! But you make aging seem like the most terrible thing in the world. Anyways, I love you diction and the personification you use to get that negative point of view of aging across.

Though this is a 5-7-5, I wanted to play it around and look how it comes out.
loneliness prevails
moving within disjoints
memories spiral
Aging or ageing is such a controversial subject. The healing and medical sciences say that it is their success that life-prolonging medicines and procedures have contributed to the longevity of the population.
Now other agencies state that the aging population will overwhelm their services and resources. So,on whose side will we converge?
Will we choose a young population or care for our aging folks and let them share with us their cumulative wisdom?

Nice twisting of the words..it is indeed fun to do that. Thanks for the kind review. Aging, science, ... what to do and who will care for who? too many questions with no clear answer

Intriguing words! A very precise and descriptive thought on aging! Best of luck in the 5-7-5 Poetry Contest category and thanks for the share.

I settle the swing
The chains are rusted
The seat is buckled
A young face is close
I'll live beside you
Swinging...

As we aged, we are separated from our memories and sometimes from our loved ones. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words. Good luck in your contest.

Very powerful 5-7-5 poem! I like 'Spiral memories'. You made excellent use of each syllable to convey a sad truth many seniors face daily. I wish you the best of luck!
