That is so lovely! How clever, and all done in 10 syllables. I loved it. I enjoyed the way you slipped in the foal, wonderful! Good luck in the contest! xsx Sandra

And I like how you have the dark horse, the unpredictable filly, the loose canon - leading the charge going on here. I also love your haiku as I think it is unique and different.

Hi, MW.
A very nice haiku with a humorous twist in the end.
The first two lines are interconnected and have concrete imagery as well. The word economy is good.
The last line uplifts the whole scene and makes one chuckle. Very interesting 'kireji' line.
Lovely use of R,L consonance and O assonance. It sounds pleasant when read aloud.
Nicely done!
Warm regards,
Anupam

You must know my pedantic habits MW! Five horses in the pic immediately intrigued me, with a title of 'six horses'! Witty last line made me smile!

Sharyn, thank you ever so much. I'm going to have to look that word up, lol. I've heard it, but don't know exactly what it means. Again, thank you! :)shawn

I like this Haiku, the image of the five horses running free is just magnificent, the sixth one cannot run because of nature taking it course.
Well done, and good luck in the contest. Mary

A truly well penned haiku, and it speaks beyond telling a story, projected in only a few words! This is a worthy entry in this contest, it should do well. The artwork is also special. Good luck, blessings, Roy.

I always find this genre difficult to write so I am impressed by this clever Haiku. Excellent picture to accompany your words too. I'm wondering that, if the last line could be changed aroung a little; I understand you would have chosen to write it in this order as you are explaining the twist in the picture matching the text, but as the term 'Mare in foal' is usually used, it gives it that extra punch. Just my suggestion, offered with respect and coming as constructive criticism. Regards, Jan

Jan, yes, mare in foal is the correct term, but those not familiar with horse terminology might not get it right away without my explaining it. Some would probably ask, what is the mare doing in the foal? lol. Just kidding. Thank you so much for the superb comments and excellent rating. Both are very much appreciate. :)MW

This is a wonderful haiku about the horses running free, but the foal is still waiting to be born and perhaps before too long will also be running free. Quite well done, Giddy

This is a simple, well-written haiku which you have presented extremely well; I very much like the picture and punctuation "illustrations" at the start and end. Lovely work!
