bloody FREEZING James! I'm actually from Queensland (warm blood) - but my parents moved to Tassie after I left home (thank goodness - I think the cold would have driven me crazy). Lovely to meet another Aussie on the site - I've not visited Adelaide! I'll look forward to reading your work.

'The Cold Beach' is an exceptionally well-written and delightfully descriptive piece. My father did the very same thing. This talented poet's work was a pleasure to both read and review.

Quite the world traverler aren't we. Didn't see that little devil running around, did you? Beautiful use of imagery and the father-daughter moment make this a truly skillfully composed poem, my friend~Debbie

Bless you Debbie - haven't been back for a couple of years, but I actually feel like it's visiting a foreign country these days as I've been in the States for 27 years. Driving on the LEFT is now a challenge (to me AND the local population!)

How I love your poetry! "to watch the dark lady
in rose and golden sari stride along the tide-line" made me shiver with delight, as did your "butterfly boats... rainbow bellied", "lollipopped houses licking sugared miles
and curves of cream-with-coffee sands" and "dimpled afternoons". Such fresh images and yet so absolutely apt! Just marvellous, Sharyn - just marvellous!

Sharyn, welcome home. This poem is so full of wonderful images:

Soft ripples are stippled with Saturday children,

butterfly boats

lollipopped houses licking sugared miles
and curves of cream-with-coffee sands

I could go on. Point is, you've taken me to this magical place. And I thank you for the visit. :) Nancy

Dear visionary1234,

I loved the way you have written your poem. You are a brilliant poet. It is extremely descriptive and because of this very deep and meaningful as well. The way you described the beach was vivid and creative. I could not find any faults with your poem. Congratulations and well done!

Kind Regards,
Cory4

How my father loved to stand and watch them here!
I still feel his hand at rest upon my shoulder
ablaze with love enough to warm this whole, cold beach--
giving
one little girl
a forever world
of
dimpled
afternoons

This is a lovely poem written from childhood memories that last forever. I love walking on the beach. Just wish I had more time to do that. The part I inserted above warmed my heart as I could feel my little princess at the moment I gave her away in marriage on a beach in the Bahamas. It was lovely. A feeling I will never forget... John

Bless you John - yes, our children always remain our children, don't they? I feel the same about my son. Glad I could warm the cockles of your heart today my dear.

Great work here with the vivid imagery and feeling that you translated so easily. The presentation was done just right and I loved how the poem trickled down into a candid ending. Nice job.

Our poet is not shy to lay it on with a trowel. She creates images with an inimitable style all her own. I like her personification of a sunset/sunrise, in the first verse. (I hope I got it right) Even the adjectives have an originality about them and introduce something of the character both of object and personage. Our poet seems well practiced in her art. I saw reviewing this as a challenge. (Again, I hope I am doing it justice.)Ekim777

"Aloha" Ekim - and "mahalo" for your lovely review and your special sixer and no, I'm not shy about laying it on with a trowel sometimes and I'm delighted that you're not afraid to say so! :)Sharyn

ps: and yes, more than justice!

lollipopped houses licking sugared miles
and curves of cream-with-coffee sands ...

Lovely picture perfect lines that I read again and again!

This is such a beautiful poem; it made me smile, it induced me to read it a few times and left me feeling sunshiney.

giving
one little girl
a forever world
of
dimpled
afternoons

and these words, placed carefully, lovingly like sea spray falling on the page, envoking loving memories of a special bond between a child and their father.

We have just moved to the seaside and I walk along or near the beach most days; often see these little vignettes being played out. I thoroughly enjoyed this poem, it is really beautiful. Regards, Jan

Bless you, Janelle, for your lovely, sympathetic reading. I've always loved beaches - they're different every day, aren't they? Which beach do you live near? Thank you so much for the honor of your special six! :)Sharyn

It's a place called Warrnambool, on the south west coast of Victoria, Australia (faces Antartica!)and is in a rural area as well, so I have the best of both worlds! :)

sure I know where you are - I probably flew over the top of you on my way back from Hobart!

I thought you may be from Oz; the 'lollipopped houses' reference sounded like the beach boxes along the bay. How was Hobart? We're thinking of taking a look soon (haven't been there for 40 years!

Actually I LOVED Hobart - I used to loathe it as I'm a warm weather person. But Hobart is quite charming and quite cosmopolitan and is especially lovely as EVERYONE is pretty well centered on the water of the estruary, so it's a nice 'boatie' kind of culture (not that I'm a 'boatie' - but I've always chosen to live by the water). Watch for those damned one way streets though! (Mind you, I was extra challenged after having driven in the U.S. for the last 27 years!)Well worth considering, though!
