A wonderful continuance, well versed, rhymed and metered.

'That mark of red she came to dread
As surely as the pain'

Silent sorrow, poor little thing, so strong.

I was fearing the worse. How happy I was in interpenetrating that of a brave child rather that the inevitable.
I guess the courage of the Thursday's child still lingers on today.
Good to read.
Have a great day,
RGstar

I haven't thought about "rag-curls" in decades--my mother used to weave strips of old sheets into my hair. I admired your telling this story in rhymed quatrains and your poignant final stanza. It sounds like a sad but true tale. -Joan

Thank you Joan for your thoughtful and encouraging review. That's what my grandma and my mother did too -- weave strips of old sheet into my hair.

Whew . . .started out charming but soon the mood changed and I dreaded a sad ending. Thankfully you put an explanation in the author's notes. Good job on the rhyme scheme and meter.

This was a well written piece of poetic art with good emotions in its thoughts and phrases. It flowed and read easily. This was a well written piece of poetic art to have read and written this response for... John

Lovely poem about Thursday's child and the accident - but she made no fuss. As you say it was probably the handle of the hatchet that hit her otherwise the poem would have been very different. Well told in good abcb rhyme form an a good read. Regards Dorothy

Little children are too afraid to even sound out the pain. it speaks of hidden fear for a child to just hide the pain and cry in silence. It could be a previous experience or a trauma when children are denied the freedom to talk about themselves or speak their minds. The agony of the child is written on her face as the picture suggests. Excellent write.

The poem read well in pace in meter. I didn't get the pillow stain/came to dread part (maybe this is explained in part I)

The picture is beautiful. I didn't have any major SPAGS to nit-pick.

Good job.

I'm glad I caught the continuation of this poem.

I like the nursery rhyme, chant-like rhythm.

Enjoyed!

Janet .. right? :)

solid use of abcb rhyming
good alliteration in hatchet hit her head
good internal rhyme in red/dread
you convey so well her determination not to cause any trouble as she hides her wound
