Beautiful description of nature's beauty. Really your work is remarkable writing a poem on ants, it never came to my mind any one can do this. Lovely, enjoyed it and thanks for sharing.

Enjoyed your imaginative description of all the creatures we adore & yet the lowly ant is barely noticed. Loved the rhyming, especially: "pizazzy/jazzy" . . . "flamboyance/annoyance" . . . Many other fresh, original word choices, thru-out, as well as fresh, unusual choices in the creatures described. Thanks for sharing & reminding us to look beyond the obvious beauties in life! *smile*

This was cute and sing-songy; it would be a cute read for toddlers-preschool.
Flamboyance / annoyance were the best lines IMO.
It would be nice if you could provide an ant pix. For the piece.

Thank you for your thoughtful review, healfromwithin. The photo of Sawyer lying on his tummy shows him examining ants on the sidewalk. Brooke

Yep. Just goes to show that there is room in this world for all of God's creation, and it takes a pure heart, like Sawyer's to show us the way.

The ant is an annoyance to adults because it ruins our pride in our housecleaning ability. It is just in the house helping us clean the crumbs we leave so it has food. Well that's a kind way of putting it. Adults think of ants as invaders. The child sees an ant as a superhero who can move things much heavier than itself and hurt those much bigger than itself with a little nip.
Thanks for more cute and apt pictures of Sawyer.
Keep writing

Delightfully written, Brooke. What ever happened to our excitement over little things like ants. I remember watching them with fascination as a child, and yes now they can be a crisis when they come in the house. Cute picture paired with cute poem. Take care, my friend~Debbie

Hi Brooke :)
and then, there is the ant.... hmm, the ant. I hate ants, especially in my house. We had some building work done over the winter and now the warmer days are here, the ants have reappeared. Thing is, they used to be outside but now they are in :( We have installed bait stations which seem to be doing the trick.
Anyway, now I've got that off my chest(!) I'll get back to your poem :)
I loved your poem in its entirety... the rhythm and rhyme, the alliteration (I particulately enjoyed the pizzazzy peacock!) the enjambment and also how you engage the reader. The poem is snappy and entertaining.
Good luck in the contest :) Kindest regards as always, Debra

Thanks so much, Debra - my sympathies on the ant invaders. When they come inside my home, I stomp them. I'm more sentimental as a poet than as an actual person. LOL Brooke :-)

Sorry no six stars left for this fun poem. Very lyrical and fun, and sooo much like a curious little one. You have a way of capturing magic.
