Mr. Kuch sir...

I no longer wonder where you inspiration comes from. I no longer ponder the width and girth of your muse. I am content now, knowing that you are reliable, knowing that I can count on you to touch me, to entertain me, to make me think, make me laugh, make me cry. You are reliable, sir, and yet... you still find new ways to surprise me.

I often imagine you at your keyboard, sir, typing away with a dreamy yet serious look upon your face. I often see you throughout your day, lost in what others would see as 'zoning out,' when really you are just consulting with your muse. You live like me, sir, by the pen, by the written word, and I so adore you for that. Nothing means more to me than reading something that speaks to me, and you speak to me, sir.

Another epic poem. I have watched your poetry grow here on this site, sir, and while others might not have noticed, I certainly do. You have come out from under your tombstone, shaken off the dirt, and what I read of you now reads deeper than anything that came before. Why? Because I see you in your words, sir. You. And that is what draws me to your writing more than anything else.

Such sadness here, and yet there is also a feeling of great contentment and accomplishment. I feel an amateur, for I know exactly what this poem means, but I cannot find the words to describe it. I feel it, but I can't describe it and do it justice, Too many layers here. Between your words and the graphics you infuse, you never fail to create something epic, sir. This was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

Your fan and friend,
--Mike

A simple thank you doesn't seem quite sufficient enough to respond to such a fabulous review as this is, Mike. You seem to "get me", to comprehend and understand completely where I'm coming from, and I sincerely appreciate that.

So, I sincerely thank you, Mike, for your kind, thoughtful and most complimentary words here. All are very much taken to heart, my friend.

I think, Dean, you convey beautifully the struggles of a writer and how long it takes sometimes to finally get that recognition. I really enjoyed reading this in poetry form and the little graphics you included really added to my wanting to continue reading. In fact, I wish there were more even though I like how it ended. Perhaps there will be a sequel? I hope so.

Thanks, Connie, what a wonderful thing to say! I'd never thought about a sequel, but I might now. Again, I sincerely appreciate the gracious review and six star rating.

Hi Dean...

~ I really like your use of graphics in this wonderful poem... They really enhance the overall struggles of a writer... And that the overnight success was thirty years in coming was very expressive of what a writer goes through...

Well done...

I only think fans own is the love of the author' writing and maybe him if his publicist is doing this job. A recent novelist of my own caring is Tom Clancy of all of his novels ( "Without Prejudice" my favourite). He has also had a few of his books made into movies (Hunt for Red October, Patriots Game, etc) . "Command Authority", his most recent book is now what is going on in the Ukraine. He recently died of a heart attack although I think the Kremlin did him in. I won't know what happens to Jack Ryan Jr ( the President's son) unless one of his co-authors has access to his manuscripts and notes. To me it is the loss of a great writer. His book Search and Destroy was removed from the shelves just prior to its release. A real mystery. He was a man who had all the right connections in the CIA, Political, military, technology as a resource to write novels of significance.

Thanks Alan, and if I could award a six for reviewing, you would certainly receive one. It was an article about Tom Clancy that prompted me to write this. Some fans were disgruntled because they'll never know the fate of the characters in some of his unfinished works. The poor man died of a massive coronary, for heaven's sakes, isn't that a good enough reason for not finishing a story? Or, would they rather his reanimated corpse be brought back to life somehow, pen in hand, writing, "U-U-u-u-u-n-n-n-g-g-g-h-h-hhhhh" mindlessly, over and over again? To me, their crassness at bemoaning the loss of his characters over the loss of the actual MAN incensed me enough to devise this "what if" scenario.

Thanks again for such a spot-on review, Alan. I sincerely appreciate that!

As a writer, I would like to tell you that you have expressed yourself beautifuly describing the days and nights and sweat and tears this author put into his work, and received no recognition. When someone finally noted something special in a story he wrote, becoming rich and famous, somehow he no longer yearned for the adoration of a fine novel, a best seller. It appears that he evened the score, perhaps not being cognizent of the reason, and no longer wanted to please others. He had earned his adulation and obviously was not about to share his talents for others to enjoy. He recalled how no one cared before.
Very well done, I enjoyed this. Joan

You nailed it, Joan, precisely. It's almost as if you had crawled into my head and envisioned what I pictured as I wrote this. I hope you weren't too terrified by what you saw there, in my brain, LOL.

In all sincerity, I am very thankful for your keen insights and most generous rating, my friend!

Terrified? Not at all. I sometimes wonder how I would feel after years of working so hard, I achieved success, everyone wanted a piece of me, and would I really want this after all.

Dear Dean - your author notes ask some powerful questions. They make me stop and think. Above all else the question of ownership pops up - and I find my self asking a question that may seem silly.

Why must there be ownership?
Can one not embrace the moments with you, your characters or anything really that crosses our path. There is a need to make it ours, part of us - yet at times this sets up the path of controlling.....and that is unfair to both parties.
I read and enjoy your creativity. You scare the heck out of me and I come back for more. Because the supporting of the writer is more to me that the scare itself. Hope that makes sense....the honour for me is in the moments spent with you and your characters - they may come to life for me - be part of me in a sense - yet always they have freedom...within your lines, within the reading I do....

Great work and thought provoking piece to ponder.
Doesn't ownership - or control remind you of taking the rights away from those like slavery, domination of all kinds virtual or real....to me seems unjust.
Thanks my friend:)
Maureen

Thanks, Maureen, and I appreciate you looking at this piece in depth.

While it's true, ownership really doesn't need to be on either side, at least as it pertains to writing and creating characters in stories, many fans, regardless of whether or not the author themselves feels ownership, do claim part ownership in them, simply because they've bought in to those tales, and paid their money (in most cases) to read about them. But ultimately, it is the author that created them. And whether we like it, or we don't, it is their right to do with them as they feel.

Stephen King's movie MISERY is a prime example of a fan claiming ownership, and although it was not my primary reason for writing it (see other comments for the true reason), I was thinking of it when I wrote the poem.

Thanks so much again for sharing your thoughts with me on this. I really appreciate that!

I like this story and poem a lot! I wish there was more but I am pretty sure that was the purpose ( to have people wanting more). It flows so well and has the perfect words. I have to ask because I am curious, where do you get the pictures for your stories? Do you just browse the internet?

Thanks for such a complimentary, INtity, I truly appreciate that! Of course I had hoped the readers would be left wanting more. I hope they'll keep coming back, lol!

As far as the pictures go, I have several flash drives with literally tens of thousands of photos and animations that I've collected over the years. Some I create myself.

Thanks again for your outstanding review!

I ADORE how you present your poems, just adds so much to the effect. I will have to ask you one day how you integrate video clips like that.

Your topic is of course ideal, I always get so upset when a favourite book series comes to and end, and the evil grin of an author withholding is truly sinister.

Awesome job, I loved it!

Hah, yeah, you got it, Onixxiya! More of a sneer than a smile, right? Like they have something over on us poor, unsuspecting, drooling masses. Which, if you stand back and take an objective look at it, they really do.

Thanks for your wonderful complimentary review and generous rating. It's very much appreciated!

i enjoyed your poem and your presentation.
Excellent rhyme and meter as the story
progresses.
I would think his publisher would sue for breach of contract! (lol)

Hah, yeah, but I imagine if the writer had enough cojones to pull this off, he really wouldn't care too much about breaching a publisher's contract.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me on this, Nancy. I truly appreciate it.
