Clapperclaw 1 - Adventurers Nil. Haven't seen you out on the briny much before. Did this beastie frighten you away? You normally prefer boggy creeks and mangrove swamps to the open sea. This is a fine tale of maritime derring do to no good effect, bearing out the old adage that "worse things happen at sea".

I've been out to sea more than once or twice, Jim. Both poetically and literally as a United Stated Marine.
This was inspired by Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner

Well, it was a beautiful place, at least what we could see between ducking AK47 fire, LOL...

Things do look different from the wrong end of an AK47. I grant you.

Making money writing. LOL. You are a funny man.
This was another fun poem. A real story. It has a rhythm I couldn't help follow as I read it. The story brought be a bit toward Pirates of the Caribbean. Lots of fun. Thanks for sharing

This is ingenious Dean you have done it again. The flow and rhythm is fabulous. I love the long windedness of it as it reads a bit like a sea faring 'Man from snowy river.' Great job. Julie d

Your story is so complex and yet so easy to read. I
don't know how you do it. This, to me, is one of the
best I have ever read that was written by you. I want
to come over and sit down and discuss it for hours.

Thanks very much, Bill, and I would love nothing more.
Okay, maybe an hour or two alone with Selma Hayek, perhaps ... but that's about it.
Thanks for the awesome review and six stars, Bill. It's always a pleasure to hear from you.

This story poem is just amazing! It is even a classic style story told in the "old" of how tales were once written. An adventure to the maximum and no less. I, if you, would not have any self worth issues. You are a very talented man! Exceptional poem. Tony Bronk Proud friend. You deserve two sixes!

I am not at all surprised that this poem won poem of the month. It should have and if possible it would win many more contests. Great job. Thank you for reposting.

The minute I set eyes on this piece I knew it was an allegory .A metaphor for the ever raging war between the higher and lower motivations that pull Mankind to and fro. It is (as always) well written with an interesting rhyme scheme and the Artwork is excellent. (Terrifying but very, very emotive) (( I pity the whale.)) The Clapperclaw is a monster of the deep, so fearsome and Godless that to even glimpse it made men tremble in fear. I can only wonder at what dreadful aspect of Human Nature it represents to the writer's mind.
A very interesting piece, introspective , but (at face value) holding a swashbuckling tale of adventure on the high seas. Well done cheers Cass

That's some precarious position that ship is in.

Excellent poem in great meter and rhyme Dean. Keeping our rudder heading in the right direction to what is steadfast and true is always the best advice.

Excellent job and I can see why it won the POM~

Tis a fun read.

Hi Dean, I am glad you revived your poem as I wasn't here in 2014 so thanks for the great read. Yes greed and power can be the ruination of one man and often the downfall of his followers. a well written poem with excellent internal rhyming that made the reader sail the seas like the swell of this poem. Kept my interest up and you ended with an excellent message. So steady as she goes me hearties. With all your poetry you are a gracious writer. I can see why this won Cheers Christine
