I'm not sure what I liked more the pictures or the poem...one compliments the other. I love story poems, and this one is fabulous. I love the message underneath the surface. A sea metaphor seems very appropriate for or feeling lost, and think you did a great job wrapping up the piece with the end and warning about greed.

Thanks for taking away from the story exactly what I intended the reader to, JJ. I'm very pleased that you liked it, and I appreciate your generous rating and review.

I've been saving a six for you as I just knew I quite possibly would need it. Another masterpiece from your quill. I read it out loud, play-acted the words if you will and my grandson says as usual...Nana's talking to herself like a crazy lady - I suppose better a crazy lady than a nothing don't you think?

Your artwork as usual is stunning and always spot-on to your write so I am of a thought that perhaps, maybe - you do your own artwork as well.

Thanks so much - so my next trip my son says will be to the crazy farm - Dinah

Hah, yeah, I've got no qualms about crazy, Dinah. But, I'm sure you've probably already gathered that by now.

I do a lot of my artwork, and even my son does some. Some of it I get to use royalty free from another website.

I really appreciate your entertaining and glowing review. Perhaps you will look me up upon your arrival to the nut house? I'll be watching for you!

Yes, it's another six for you. Wonderful poem Your meter is not that great but you make up for it in imagery and rhyme. The internal rhyme was outstanding and I love the slant rhymes you wove into the mix. I love the ocean but would rather adore it from the shore. Great poem Dean. Nancy

Around(the)world, his caution hurled, he sailed the seven seas. Missing word for meter. Heptameter
You will look at this some day and see the meter and make th changes Dean. It is a great poem and will be even greater when the meter is there. Wonderful story. Nancy

Hah, yeah, I'm still working on meter, iambic pentameter -- all of those technical aspects of poetry writing. I had never written poetry, only prose, until coming here to FanStory. Well, with the exception of a valentine's or birthday poem to my lovely wife, of course. But nothing where I felt confident enough to allow everyone to see it.

I'm thinking of taking a class here to help me with those things. I do try hard, LOL, but it doesn't always come across to others as it sounds to my ears when I read it aloud.

Thanks so much again for your generous rating, and wonderful words of encouragement, Nancy. I do appreciate it immensely!

Poetry is like a dance Dean. Meter is the music. When you finally understand you won't believe how easy it is. It is an ah-ha moment! LOL Nancy

Slammin! At times as I read this, I caught hints of "The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and the Bible story of Paul, sailing in winter under Greece, when God revealed to him that the ship would be a total loss--but no man's life would be.

I really like the ultimate message... life should be about the pursuit of righteousness, not "filthy lucre"...kinda reminds me of the dream I heard about years back...

A wealthy man, near death, had instructions for his wife concerning their fortune. They had no children and had outlived all their near kin. He directed for her to take all she thought she'd need to live on, then convert the rest to gold coins, and have him buried with these coins in his pocket. "I want to see if you can take it with you, or not!" he'd said.

The day came, he died, and she followed his directions. As the old man passed through St. Peter's Gate, he reached down...felt the coins...and said, "Well, look here! I guess you really CAN take it with you!"

Meanwhile, two angels standing off to the side, one asked the other, "What's with the new guy, with his pockets full of gravel?"

...and the streets of that city shall be paved with gold....
Heaven's puppies will CRAP on your money!!!

The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner -- I absolutely adore that poem, poet.wayne! I can see why the story of Paul would be brought to mind as well.

You are so-o-o-o right, and thanks for sharing that story with me about the man and his pocket full of gold coins. That was great! We certainly can't take it with us, and even if we did, it would do us no good there, lol. What could we ever possibly need to buy, Jesus already paid the price for us.

Thanks again for your complimentary review and generous rating, PW. I am very grateful.

Well done Mate. This was once though to be true in Christopher days even that the world was flat and the ships would fall off. I really enjoyed it. Blessings to you.

Thanks so much for your gracious comments and generous review, my friend. I was thinking a bit of ol' Christopher as I wrote this. You could tell that? You are a very perceptive man.

Blessings to you as well, Ben~

I wish I knew how to make art move like you do. Sometimes I wish I could illustrate a certain point with the same method. Perhaps if the Lord leaves me here much longer it will happen. You are welcome my friend.

Clapperclaws run 40 to 50 feet according to those beached on the shore. Measurements made on the sucker marks in the 1800's on a whale carcase estimate some were 100 ft in length. You poem is superb Dean so very full of legend and lore. Very entertaining.
