Hi Brooke
When I was a little kid, we would have a great time with boxes. The bigger, the better. When boxes weren't available, we used blankets thrown over chairs. We created our own little world. It was such fun.
I wonder how many people today live inside a box and don't realize it? If their favourite pastime is watching TV, for example, then their box is the living room. The world awaits them, but they are watching a screen. They could be going for a walk... fresh air, exercise, constellations up above.
I like the imagery of this line,
"If waves can stretch for miles
upon an endless sea"
Thanks for sharing another great picture of little Sawyer. It's nice that his dad plays with him like this. You can never recapture these days.

Kimbob

Kimbob, thank you, my friend, for your insights :-) Andy is just a big kid at heart. Miranda says at this point he enjoys stuff like this more than his son - he's waiting for Sawyer to grow into his make believe games. LOL Brooke

I am having so much fun with my granddaughter too. Alyssa is almost four months, but already finding her voice. We have her a lot, because my daughter has been experiencing some postpartum depression along with a recent backache. Sometimes we hear her cooing in her crib that we have set up in Laura's old room. Wonderful baby talk! Sometimes she'll squeal her delight when we play with her. She loves her "Gampy" and "Gammy". That's for sure! She is the highlight of a long, dreary winter.

There's nothing better than those baby squeals :-) I'm sure Alyssa appreciates your help. Being a new mom can be a bit overwhelming. Gampy, I love it :-) Today Sawyer was singing I Love Apples and Bananas for me. :-)

A delightful poem. Excellent rhyme and lively flow. You have expressed such a great idea, that the creative mind doesn't like to be confined. They need the freedom to express themselves. I think school children often start out with such great imagination only to have teachers try to rein them in. Great conclusion--"No boundaries exist to stop the likes of me." judi

I am sure Sawyer would never be boxed in. He knows how to use his creativity and is self confident enough to flaunt it. I know he loves playing with boxes because he's a child.

Dear Brooke: I read every poem you write, although I don't always review. Every one is outstanding, and I am a big fan by now of Sawyer. Every picture of that handsome little guy turns me to mush. Just think, so young and already world famous. The lines that especially appeal to me:
A box cannot contain
what lives within a mind,
for minds were never made
to have their thoughts confined.
One of the things that I feel most strongly about is thought control, and groups that try to impose it.

This is a lovely picture, Brooke, it looks as if more like he is on the television than in a fort! LOL. Your poem is just right, I cannot see anyone being able to keep Sawyer in, can you? :) xsx sandra

: ) So perfect is so many ways. Starting the photo of the young boy in a cardboard box, creatively made, the impishness in his eyes - the visual of his looking out and the boundless world before him. And then the poem expressing not what the boy knows but what he imagines and we ride along and remember on those unfettered imaginings.

This was a fun poem. Loved the rhyming rhythm to it...and of course its timeless message!
I remember the boxes I played with as a kid.
I smashed them up too. LOL
Awesome!

I think smashing them up after they've served their purpose is half the fun :-) Thanks so much, Bill. Brooke
