New to poetry and its many styles and structures, I am forced to trust my ears and eyes to find what touches me. What a wonderful little poem, that pretty much describes the life of a mother. Great job. :-)

Hi Ric :) Thank you for your wonderful feedback - I trust my eyes and ears too... I'm also new(ish) to poetry... I like what I like! (I like what I understand, more like!) Glad you liked this one :) Kindest regards, Debra :)

congrats on the contest win

I see you could not say writing was your hobby, so, I get the difficulty. Mine would be model ship building, although it is sitting idle since I found I have to write the story regarding Chris and Karen and SVeta

Hi :) Thanks for the message of congratulations :) I'm sure you will get back to your model ship once the story is out of your system!

A fine poem with the remembrance of the past that still continues.
I see your art work of rhymes between the second and the last lines.
I also see the syllable scheme as well
Good luck in the contest!

I can't help but laugh at the truth of it. . .when children come into the picture, hobbies become pure luxury, and end up on a shelf of used to be.
And then all we can think of is a time when time is ours - and how all we want to do (it they mirage ever comes true) is sit and rock on our porch with a lemonade and maybe a pair of binoculars!
BUT - I'll tell you what: That passes too, after 4 or 5 years (maybe 6 or 7) LOL then you will revive the sedentary hobbies! LMAO

Nice write!

Cheers lorraine for your great feedback... could I trade the lemonade for a glass of wine and the binoculars for a book?! Hmm, maybe I could trade the kids for goldfish?! Maybe not! Cheers, Debs x

Ah! I remember those days well when the children close together in bed made for 'do nothing time ' just to sit and chill. Loved the artwork and color choice...very complimentary to your words - Dinah

Hi Debra

Hahahahah! LOL Aaaah, the bliss of motherhood! Well, I suppose rearing three children could be a hobby."))

So much we give up for those lil darlings .... at least you can still sit down, relax with your shoes off .... happens late in the day though. I'm surprised no-one has called their writing a hobby. Great rhyme and bouncy rhythm.

At least you still have your sense of humour. When the get a bit older, life will have more opportunity to let you share some of your hobbies with your children. Sounds like you have a wealth of knowledge in some fun activites and I'm sure that you can teach them to your own children, while enjoying some fun for yourself.

I've enjoyed you creative 'take' and I hope you do well. Good luck. Hugs - Lovi xoxoxox

Hi Lovi :) Thanks for the great feedback! The only hobby I DO have these days IS writing (but I made it a rule of the contest that writing COULDN"T be the hobby to write about!) Glad you enjoyed my entry - having a sense of humour is may saving grace most days!
Love and hugs, Debra :) xx

As I said earlier, I just LOVED this! There truly is nothing more rewarding, I have a son who is 32, my husband raised 4 kids on his own, and we have 12 grandkids, the investment of your time now, will pay dividends thru the years!!! Blessings today!

Hi justjo :) Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback and 6 star rating. I'm so happy you enjoyed the poem. Your husband sounds like Superman raising 4 kids alone...! I struggle with our 3 sometimes and I have my husband around when he's not at work! 12 Grandkids! I bet you have so much fun (and you get to give them back too...bonus!) In all honesty though, the kids ARE hard work, but they're great and I'm so proud of them. Ben is 8, Katie is 6 and Rebecca is 3. They are our world :D
    Kindest regards, Debra x

I really enjoyed your poem and can soooo relate to it. I have a six year old son and I love him dearly, but he runs me ragged. You're so right, by the time the day is done there's no energy left to pursue a hobby. My only hobby right now seems to be writing and I think it's more for mental therapy at this point than anything else. LOL :) Your poem is so well written with great rhythm and rhyming. It was a true pleasure to read. :)

Hi Jenna :) Thank you for your great feedback! My middle child is 6 too, she's a real live-wire, I feel your raggedness! Also, writing is my release too - it's how I spend my 'me-time' and yes, it keeps me sane (sort of!)
    Hugs, Debra :) x

I recall when my kids were little, the sheer enjoyment of just sitting for awhile, letting my mind regroup. Your poem is both fun and a bit of motherly truth - hobbies are something you have done or will do later, but not now. Best of luck in the contest with this entertaining write. Blessings, Linda

Well, Debra, enjoyed your poem & pic provided Though, remember, too, they love you, & mothering in itself is quite a 24hr hobby, at least there some time for you to write poetry & writing short stories, etc. but that wasn't allowed, putting that in this poem... Best Wishes for you with this entry.

ps. I love my 'hobby' but it exhausts me! and yes, writing is my real hobby - I just can't give that up!
