Brooke - as always, a beautiful poem, simply written, but full of meaning, I'm always amazed at your ability to touch the strings of my heart. Always warmest regards, Bill

This is delightful, uplifting... and, oh - so very wise! It's light and tender as a child's kiss upon the cheek. Lovely poem, Brooke!

Your words capture a feeling of joy and I like you question of why do we race away from joy. Your words capture a sense of freedom and lightness, you make the reader feel good.

I know there are dozens of marvelous old saws about the making of easy choices. Sometimes they're obvious to all who need make the choice. Sometimes they're easy for the wrong reason.
But love, Brooke, should be the universal easy choice. Both giving, and receiving.
I can understand and reason my own trepidations. But childred should not have to weigh things in the same manner.
Sorry I've been away for a few days.
Peace,
Lee

Lee, thank you - I hope you've been away for good reasons. :-) Brooke

Thanks, Brooke. These days, being away is rarely as fun as it used to be. Probably because I'm not as fun as I used to be. That's what the Rockettes tell me. L

You've been skipping out on me with the Rockettes? Well, see how long it is before you get another six out of me ;-)

The poet uses the word 'joy' metonymically as a substitute for a most loved parent, guardian. A source of embrace.
Yet the poet asks how often this easy choice is tossed aside, and we mistakenly run the opposite direction when love is offered.
In the case of children, to whom love is offered freely and often, they see love as something in unending supply, as they do life itself. But the poet, who says she'd never make that mistake, has the wisdom to realize, as it were, that offers of love do not grow on trees.
Cheers,
DW

A lovely rispetto, as I'd expect from you Brooke. I like the thinking in your theme; there's often hesitation in love, because much is at stake. I it's called the approach/avoidance dilemma.
I hesitated about the number of syllables in your first line but then decided that you probably pronounced the third word as "t'ward", which sounds fine. Nevertheless, I'd respectfully offer such alternatives as "To welcome joy..." or "To run for joy..."
What a lovely little girl that is!

Thank you so much, Peter - yes, in my corner of the world we say tord - you can hear a professional reader pronounce the word that way at freedictionary.com :-) And yes, Nora is quite a lovely, joyful little girl. Miranda posted the picture to commemorate their fifth anniversary together :-) Brooke

You've mentioned freedictionary.com before but I'd forgotten. Thank you for enlightening me :-)
-
I love the audio function that has an American man as the main reader, and then an American woman and a Brit woman also pronouncing the word - it often gives me insight into how different a word can sound across the pond
-
The most amusing experience I recall is when a reviewer told me that the word "sqirrel "I'd used did not rhyme with "Cyril". Of course, he pronounced it "squirl" as in "girl".
-
I still can't get over the fact that Southerners pronounce orange in one syllable - I can't even make my mouth do that :-)
-
Heh, Brooke, I've just realised that I actually say t'word. We can get a glimpse of how languages change over the centuries:-)

Such a sweet and caring message delivered succinctly and effectively. Limiting love is probably the greatest travesty we can commit as human beings...John

Well taken care of by your daughter.
Nicely written piece of art as always.

More and more, the world offers slaps more than tender touches. When that hand is there to kindle joy, we would be fools to not become children and hop/skip/jump to it.
